My car has been grinding pretty badly in 2nd and 4th gears. I took it to Florin Rd Toyota and they "checked" it out (which i doubt, cuz it was there all day and they never moved it once).
And said that i need a new transmission. They went ahead and covered it under warranty, but they needed it for a week they said. (they're not replacing synchros, they're actually getting me a new transmission). They even gave me a 2002 Tundra for the week or so that they need the car for free. I love this dealership, I had intake, exhaust, and my car was dropped, i had raised it as much as i could, but you could still easily tell it was dropped. And they didnt care about any of that stuff. So like, yah, i'm just happy  (btw, this wasnt the dealership i purchased the car from)

I know, ive been reading those posts. How is that stuff coming along anyways? Did your friend get them to install the tranmission for free? or they still asking for him to pay for labor?

i had no problem getting my tranny under warranty...it was the clutch they didnt agree with. i thought it should be free but they didnt agree with me, so i bought a TRD clutch and flywheel and dint hafta pay outrageous install prices cuz they had to drop the tranny anyway!! ahhh the beauties of the trickery.

he had a meeting with all the department heads, and they agreed to replace the motor, tranny, axles, clutch, etc on the condition that he pay for the labor - which they estimated at just under $4k I think.
Then they've d*cked him around ever since... this happened MONTHS ago. Apparently they tried to rebuild his motor, even though they already told him he was getting a brand new one and he had already made an agreement based on that conversation. They put it together and it didn't run - or something like that, so the dealership says. After his parents went ballistic, the dealership changed their minds again and said they would put in the order for the new engine... meanwhile his car is sitting out in the rain and sun with an empty engine bay. We think they were trying to jack up the labor, assuming that the dealership wouldn't really have to cover the cost of the parts if it's covered under warranty. I dunno. To me it just makes more sense that it would take less time to drop in the new motor than it would to try and disassemble the old one and rebuild it.
Still, he gets a different story every time he calls. It's ridiculous. He pulls covert night missions into the dealership to peek at his car, and once even called me excited on the phone, telling me he saw his new tranny in the car, wrapped in plastic. As it was, it turned out to be just that, a plastic bag. What a bummer.
Now apparently, our dealership has told one of our members that it will no longer be providing loaner cars. They claim that too many ppl have been crashing them and it's costing them too much money. That's ridiculous.
And it goes on and on I tell ya. I could prolly go pages and pages about what they pull on us. The thing is, since we're stuck on this little island, there isn't a hell of a lot of choice. After contacting Toyota USA, we even found out that Servco Hawaii, which operates all Toyota dealerships in Hawaii, is independent of Toyota USA and therefore they have no influence over them. SUCKS DONKEY NUTS.

WOW! I feel you and your friends pain. That really does suck. I was kind of afraid of going in and asking for them to fix my stuff under warranty. Finally, I went in, and thank god they agreed. I think that if the dealership lied to you, and said that they'd replace the motor, and instead they try to rebuild instead... it should be a legal matter. But then again, i dont know anything about Law, so i couldnt say. Good Luck with all of that stuff, its pretty stressful.
