View Full Version : 2003 Celica - what's next?

So the time is near. 2000 - 2001 - 2002, same car, slight changes in parts/mechanical. So here comes the 2003 model year. I have been researching Toyota sites and production dates, etc. It is too early in the year to tell anything, but I find that every vehicle is mentioned for 2003 but the Celica and the MR-2 Spyder.
So what do you think could really happen? Drop the Celica? New engine? A very quiet carry-over with more bug-fixes?

Isn't it 2004 models that are gonna change the design?

According to Auto Week magazine, the new Celica will be out in 2004.

I'm just wondering. I'm new to Celica's. What changes have occured from the 2000 Celica's to the 2002 Celica's. I'm most likly going to get a 2002 Celica this summer.

For the gts lower revlimit, wider shift gates, and lower grill.

basically nothing for GT, but for GTS.. not that much either. u cant tell the difference on the exterior except for the grille. im thinking for 2003, something new.... maybe option packaging different, but i dont see how toyota would keep everything the same... it HAS been 3 years. my guess, just based on what i've seen in the past. im expecting something bigger than a grille change tho. (i could also be terribly wrong :silly: )
maybe they will paint it yellow, and make it convertible, hehe

Maybe Toyota's getting ready to place them in the new brand line.
Blue - is the new Celica going to debut in 2004 as part of 2005 line up, or is it going to debut in 2003 as a 2004 car?

I dont believe this. A four year run for a car like this just seems too short. It actually competes well against the RSX, unlikely previous models (except for the all-trac). I see it going at least 5 years maybe more. Facelift definitely, but I dont see a redesign in the near future. Besides how the hell would Auto Week know, they are just guessing. We would have seen a prototype or something by now especially at the just passed Tokyo Auto Salon.

I noticed that the 2001 celicas have a different Fog light, They are smaller and adjustable no biggy,
I also think that it isn't going to be a major redesign just a minor face lift in 2004 they would be stupid to do that to a model that boasted sales something like 300% its first year.

Hopefully they will go back to the celica the way i was in the 5th gen and earlier.
I'd like them to keep the body shape, but create a
Convertible. don't really need to change the engine, just reinforce teh body.
GT4. swith to a different engine, turbo it and have it be AWD.
Celica SUPRA. go back to the old school. meke the car RWD, toss in a 6cylinder that bould be boosted and u'd be set.
keep a GT, GTS trim as well.

Actually, they will, it was confirmed that Toyota will release the third brand line in the US, although no name yet, and it will include the Celica, the Echo and the WiLL (a different name though), brand will be marketed to the "youth market", IMO they should leave the celica as a Toyota, it's always been a toyota, and it should stay as a toyota.
So we will have three lines, Toyota, Lexus and ?

Well, if it's like most other car companies. The front and rear bumper will be slightly changed to give the car a new look along with the headlights and tail lights. Just my .02

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was the celica's change and come out ever 4 years? With the acception of 2001 with the action package and 2002.

I betcha they will come out with the convertible Celica, they already have one designed and Celica's are selling like budda. I see tons of people on the road that are perfect convertible Celica candidates.

and compete with the spyder? I don't think so. Toyota is not going to spend the money to put a convertible celica into production. No way, no how.. it just wouldn't be profitable for them..

The 5th gen Celica run was only 4 years. 1990-1993.
