I know the erge to fix your car up, BUT if you have other concerns to use your money such as emergencies, well This is what i do save up DONT SPEND IT... Get that stable amount of money in and keep it there .... then build on that and spend the money over that bulk that you have saved up... but you'll always feel good to know that you got that bulk of cash in the bank for emergencies. Income tax time is comin up soon .. and this would be a great start at savin that money . Let your gf have a baseball bat so when you pick the phone up to make an order on a part ... she hits you LOL .
seriously youll feel better doing this

You can dress it up, shine it up, make it look nice. Drop a turbo in it and make it really fast. All the stuff we talk about on here all the time.... but when it comes down to it its just a car man. Invest your money in it as if you were gambling... if you can't afford to lose it, don't spend it.

Maybe you just need to take some time away from the board, I bet you will stop caring so much about modding your car if you stop reading about it. I know when I bought my car, modding it hadnt even crossed my mind until I came here. I have gone through similar periods but sometimes you just have to take a step back and look. "Yes, an aluminum shift knob would look really cool, but no, I'm not going to spend $65 on it when the one I have works fine". Just stop looking at it and you'll forget you ever thought you needed it in the first place. Thats my advice anyway

Here is my advice to you:

If you really have a tough time controlling your spending. You got to budget yourself or you might get screwed and lose your whole damn car. Set aside an allowance for your car. For instance, allow 50 dollars a month to spend. You can keep saving it up until you want to buy say an intake. Or spend the 50 dollars each month on little ricey stuff. Just figure out how big of an allowance you can afford.

I went through the same thing when I first got my celica. Bought a new mod like every 2 weeks. Then I got laid off and was almost broke and I stopped doing that. I did the bolt ons and short shifter and some ricey sh*t that looks cool, but theres no mods im really interested in since im going for performance and theres not many go fast parts left right now.

That's about the stage I'm in right now, too. Don't quite understand how we can agree on this, yet you say people who are looking for more performance parts for the Celi are "bitching" in the other post.

[my thoughts]

when you let your 'hobby' get you into financial problems, you should really take a step back and look at yourself...

yeah the import craze is also called a 'life style', but if you get yourself into debt... you're gettin yourself into a different life style... spend a little less on your car, stop worrying about hookin it up,

THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE:

BE HAPPY WIT WHAT YOU HAVE, never be unhappy with what you don't have

Modding cars is a waste of money. The stuff you already have on your car is going to work just fine. But I know how you feel bro, I want a set of springs and Tenzo R's so bad. Everyone on this site is like that. If modding cars is going to put you in debt don't do it. It's a hobby. I say go with the allowance thing, and have a chunk of money available at all times. You never know what might come up, especially since the economy is so volitile at this point.

Also go to OT, we have fun in there plus it gets your mind off cars for a little while. Keeping the car wash and wax helps get my mind off of modding it too.

I have side money all the time in savings, thats a must. And modifying my car don't put me in debts, just makes me feel anxious for making more money to spend on it.For that i have to work more, then at work u get pissed and tired, its like chain reaction.Cant stop it!
