4th gear grind

I have an 01' gts 6 speed with about 5200 miles. noticed the other day when I downshift from 5th to 4th I get a grind, not all the time but most of it. has anyone had any problems like this before?

Oh yes. 4th and 2nd but only on a downshift not on an upshift.

you guys close enough to come to memphis for the meets?

btw, mine grinded at high rpms upshifting or downshifting cause my syncros went out...

you should double clutch when downshifting anyway

when shifting at or near redline from 1 --> 2 I get a loud crunch sound.And I can feel it in the shifter, as if My syncros are ****. Reverse is also strange, Sometimes i cant get into it without putting it in 1st before reverse. Or i have to move the car a little first. Anyone have this problem?? Will Toyota Fix this? or are they going to be bitches as usual?

another q. do i have to get warranty work done at a dealer? i hate dealerships :nono: c:down: :bsflag: :angry:

Yup they could cover it by warranty although i suppose they dont have to. Mine's at the dealership right now getting a brand new transmission because of the 5-4 grind (also have a 1-2 occasional grind at high rpms, but they couldnt reproduce it). My clutch is also gone and they said they would install a new one free since the tranny was already out. So I got a trd clutch. One of the service guys at irvine toyota has a celica also so he's really cool about it. Can't wait to get it back tomorrow!

ok, YOU GUYS GOTTA READ THIS. I was on this board a few months ago, bitching about grinding my 1-2 shift. I WAS SIMPLY SHIFTING TO HARD. This car's tranny is not meant to be man-handled. I know this sounds hard to believe, and I had been told this before, but if you simply just completely re-think your whole philosophy on shifting with this car, you will be ok. The way I MADE myself shift better, was to just put 2 fingers on the shifter and force myself to shift like a little girl. BOOM I land my 1-2 shift EVERY SINGLE TIME NOW! NO JOKE NO LIE. every single time I land in lift just by easing up on the shifter, and I NO LONGER GRIND EVER AT ALL ON THE 1-2. Now, I am having a definite syncho issue on downshifts into 3rd.

PLEASE EVERYONE, go out and find a good spot today and try just shifting very very gently on your 1-2. Alot of 1-2 grinds are happening because you are not giving the synchro a chance to do it's job, when you jam the 1-2 the synchro isn't even done doing it's job yet.

Also, what seems to help is having a Mcdonalds/wendy's drink cup in the 2nd drink holder, this forces you to have your arm higher and pull less hard... yeah I know ,,, crazy but it seemed to make me get the point that I don't need to beat the livin crap outta my shifter to let it get into gear....

im gettin a new tranny...because my car grinds only when its cold...downshifting from 4th to 3rd and 5th into 3rd grinds hella bad...it sux so bad..

I'm about 4 hours from Memphis. a couple of my buddys live down there, do you know Brian Hollifield? he drives a black civic hatch with black 5 spoke GSR wheels.
