today around 12:15 CST i was taking my friend home from best buy, and as i was turning into his neighborhood i looked over and saw a 98ish maroon taurus speeding towards me in my lane (he had stop sign, i didn't have anything). i was already directly in front of him and he was doing at least 40-45, so i floored it and tried to turn into the other lane before he hit me... unfortunately i started sliding like crazy, straight into a curb, up the curb, and into a yard. i panicked and got out, not thinking about the taurus, and instead went to inspect the front end. by the time i had turned back around he was about half a mile down the road. the driver's side sideskirt is bent halfway off, the rim itself is bent downwards and im 99% sure the axle is bent pretty bad... the wheel actually was 4 or 5 inches behind where it was supposed to be (it was rubbing against the back of the wheel well). the rim also had some huge scratches, adn the fender might have a dent or two as well. the wheel well plastics are torn to oblivion, and i'm almost positive the bottom of the front bumper got messed up when it hit the curb. it was towed to the only local place my insurance covers (pontiac dealer) where the work will be done to repair it (if it's not totalled) in all honesty, right now, im hoping it's totalled so i can go ahead and get something cheaper. i hate the problems i've put on my parents; they don't deserve it. and still, they think i shouldn't work at 16 because i have the rest of my life to.. im going to plead (even if i get the car back) to see if i can get something cheaper... today has not been a good day for me. :(

 Because that's the age you can get your license at?? I was driving at 16 too, albeit not anything close to a new car. 1980 Corona baby, 5spd RWD 90bhp sedan liftback monster :chuckles:
Hehe, I think it's kinda cool that you are trying to reject the "forced spoilage" your parents are putting on you.

Sorry to hear the accident. .. glad you're alright tho. Its also good to hear that you have appreciation for what your parents give you. I just purchased my Celica in december with my own money .. I'm 17./ I've worked my ass off for this car and so I appreciate it and take care of it. Then I see people who get their cars for nothing and just don't give a crap .. makes me mad. One kid in my school just got a Lexus IS300 .. brand new. Yet acts like he could care less about it because he didnt pay for it. Spoiled brat.

why do my parents have to be as complicated as they are? i'm pleading with them to let me get a gti 5 speed for only $15900 which is ALOT cheaper than what we payed on the celi... would this not make more sense than keeping the celi and probably paying more on insurance after it gets fixed? :(

Listen man, you did the right thing not letting the jackass hit you, if he did, you and your friend might have gotten hurt. Remember, the Celica is a small car. So, good decision not letting him hit you like some people would have done. It's just not worth it.
A couple of words of advice though if you do sell the Celica: get a 5 speed no matter what, you won't regret it. I bought my del Sol used, and it needs a lot of work (both the interior and exterior are nowhere near as nice as my modded-out Celica), but it's a 5 speed and is about 10 times more fun to drive and helps you focus on driving whereas with an auto your mind can drift at times.
Anyways, good luck with the car, sad that some asshole who needs to learn how to drive may have really messed up your car.

Man that really sucks.. :wtc: You could always look into getting a used GT, probably look around 10-15k range for low milage. Kinda depends on your parents, I know mine won't buy a used car. I just hate to see ya go man, those were some awesome pear tree pics and not many people post in the wash and wax :D

ya that toally sucks...its better to get hit than to swerve out of control to prevent it...

thanks hank.. all i can hope for now is that either A.) it's totalled or B.) they let me get something cheaper... i was actually thinking about getting a used 5 speed GT like you said 2002GT and Hank. i believe the way i feel at this moment in time is the worst i've ever been :(

That might be cheaper than what you paid for the celica, but #1- You have been paying on it so you don't owe as much anymore hopefully, #2 - You will not get that much for the celi.

Obvously I can't see the car, but from what it sounds like I'd say around $6000 to fix. I really doubt they'll total it. They almost didn't total mine, and the frame was shaped like a banana. :)
Sorry about the accident. I was hit at about 45mph by a sub-compact car, Toyota Corolla hatchback, and believe me, you didn't want to get hit by that Taurus. Good job saving yourself, the bad part is if he didn't hit you, your insurance company will consider it your fault. Insurance companies suck.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear but I'm glad your ok man, I don't think your parents are worried much about the car as much as they are worried about you. Remember car can be fixed or replaced, your life and your health are what's important. Take a deep breath, get the car fixed and thank god he didn't hit you or you didn't hit something after jumping the curve or even worst flip the car. Good luck getting the car fixed.
