If you do NOT have a broken lift bolt yet can we replace it with the new bolt just by taking off the valve cover and will it be accessible without going through the full TSB replacement process listed on the TSB??? And would we ever have to worry about it breaking or repairing anything else on the head after the replacement????

Please explain in detail if you have any supported information for those of us with a GT-S that still have an okay working Lift mech. with the old bolt.

I would buy the two bolts (and the gaskets, but you can most likely re-use the old ones) and replace them now. I went to check mine prior to a long trip. Turned out that I had a broken intake side bolt. The exhaust was worn very similar to everyone else's that had a broken intake side. It's about $20 for everything and it assures you of no dealer trips or out of warranty service $$$. Plus, it takes all of about 20 mins to do. I'm going to check mine about once a year, and if I see wear, replace them again - AB

Okay.. i just heard that the concern was only for GT-S that had head work or a rebuilt motor... and not to worry about ones that never had any internal work done to the motor is that TRUE????

head head and more head. j.k.

It's just for the GT-S and as for only on ones that have had head work??? I don't think so, that would be new news to me.

I've had my intake one brake on me 1.5 years ago, now I replace them every spring. I'm treating this like regular maintance, it doesn't cost much or take very long so to me it's more then worth it.

so they are easly accessed by just taking off the valve cover and it only takes 30 minutes or so correct. just the full TSB threw me off as far as the location of the bolts. I think the TSB explains it in terms of OTHER damage and replacing other parts such as one of the cams. thanks for the info!

Yeah they are easily accessible by just taking off the valve cover. The rest of the TSB deals primarily with getting out the broken off half of the bolt. If they aren't broken they come out very easily and it does seem like a good idea to replace\check them on a regular basis. 2 bolts and a gasket are worth not having to have the entire process done and checking them is an easy job that takes maybe 30 minutes if you have the proper tools. My engine has never been over-revved and has never had any head work and I had a broken bolt.
