it would probably depend on the 8000 dollars worth of other stuff you'll also need to make it fit.

XS is soon to be released. Custom turbo is a waste of time and money being so late in the production of a kit. The kit is gonna be released in summer, so completing a custom turbo will take you about the same time. A kit is easier to install than customizing everything. Also tuning is a biatch and hella expensive, if not done right, BOOM!
Jersey Jay and the other custom jobs had theirs for a while and although they are pioneers for boosted celicas, they sacrificed a lot of their time, money, etc.

t3/t4 is a little too big to run 7psi of boost on a 1.8l engine, you will get unecessary lag. Unless you're going for more boost than 7psi, go with something smaller.

JerseyJay has a t3/t4 turbo and it seems to work great. I agree with oneway though that it is probably overkill and will produce lag that you could have avoided. I guess it all depends on what you're looking to do with it...

u should get a turbo you will use the most ouf of.. getting huge turbos and only boosting 7psi? i dont know about that.. T28.. thats good for 300+ spools fairly quick.. t25 even..

do you really need those big ball bearing turbos that cost 2000 alone and only boost 7 psi on it?

just my .02

I'm runnning a turbonetics T3/4 Hybrid 58 trim ceramic coated. It's the largest trim you can fit with a Celica as we had to do some minor modifications to get it in. I'm only boosting 7 psi on stoack internals. I have NO LAG WHAT SO EVER with this turbo. We had a T3 in the car prior to this one and burnt it up within 300 miles as it wasn't a ball bearing and the rubber seals just sh*t the bed! Much more lag with a smaller one do to my past experience, but alot less money. If you know someone you can buy my turbo for $1,300.00-$1,400.00. I would not get a turbo that is not ball bearing. My set up is good to 450 HP and the Celica will never see that kind of power while it's in my possession.

VF35
T25
K03b
K04a

All fast spooling. The VF35 is a popular Subaru replacement and is also the 02 STI Turbo.

The K04 is the turbo David Draper is using in his GT turbo kit, correct?

All these fast spooling turbo is good for the GT, but will not be good enough for GT-S because they top off before you hit lift :( For a GT-S get something else that will keep kicking to maybe 8500 past your redline :)

Wether or not to run a T3/T4 has nothing to do with how much boost you are going to run. Most people dont seem to understand that all T3/T4 is are the housings. Its a T3 exhaust side and T04 series compressor cover.

The wheel choice inside that T3/T4 is what makes the difference and the AR of the housing can be used to control spool up with a .48 being the smallest and spooling the quickest.

But to answer your question rknily, I would not personally go with a custom turbo kit at this point in time because there are a few kits that will be released very soon that will end up costing less then your custom kit in the long run and be tested.
