Just curious as what to use on a 2003 celica GT not GTS. I think the book said regular(87) or possible mid-grade(89) . Any body with a GT what do you use?

I use 93, because for some reason my car will idle hard if i use anything else, but gt can run as low as 87 but recomened 89. If your car is stock then 93 octane will just be a waste of money, because you will not really benifit any more then 89.

Alright 1 more question for you, Later on if I add a Cold air intake and the TRD exhaust and thats all I will do for now, for my GT should I stay at mid-grade89 or up it to premium 93??? Just wondering if those 2 mods would need a higher level of gas? Thanks for the info!

Neither one of those mods should affect the grade of gasoline that you use.

no, octane requirements are dependant on compression.(GT-S has higher compression than GT, hence 91 is required). anywho, exhaust and CAI will have virtually no impact on compression, so stay with 89 and save some $$$. if you ever turbo/supercharge your GT, tho, then put in the highest shat you can find!;)

YIKES! That's the same stuff I put in my 747:chuckles:

Seriously though, is 89 actually recommended(by Toyota) to be used in the GT?

I assume New Zealand uses RON (Research Octane Number), which means 97-98 in NZ is only 92-93 in the US.

anything above what Toyota recommends is a waste of money if you're not using some sort of Forced Induction (turbo, super, nitrous). The octane number is a rating to tell you how resistant it is to detonation. You WILL NOT start to detonate w/ simple mods like CAI/Exhaust.

93 only.

I remember reading something about putting too high of an octane gas might be harmfull for your engine, since it will leave over some deposits or something like that...I use 87 on my auto GT, but i might switch over to 89 since gas is coming down

i agree... my dad's a service manager at a local dealership and knows every friggen thing there is to know about Chevy's. When I just started driving years back, I let it slip to him that i put 93 octane in my Cav Z24... he got like PISSED at me and told me never to do that again. He said that over time you'll mess up your engine if you don't put in the recomended octane(which was of course 87 for a Cavalier). I havn't since ;)

Something kinda unrelated to this topic, but on the issue of gasoline... He also got even more pissed when he found out I sometimes let my tank get so low that the 'Check Gauges' light came on. He said when the fuel pump sucks the last remaining amount of gasoline from the tank, it picks up a lot of sediments that collect on the bottom of the tank. He said that will definately mess the fuel injectors up over time. I try to fill up at 1/4 tank now, but I still usually end up letting it go until E:chuckles:

I never knew there was so much to worry about when it came to gasing up, but well, just a few pointers you all might wanna think about...

Oh, and btw Sexy Celica... they're saying gas prices nationwide are currently bottomed out and are soon gonna begin to rise again as the whole Iraq situation gets stable and the summer vacation period starts again. Ugh. (Why did gas have to plummet to $0.70/gallon in my town years before I started driving):wtf:

I put 89 in my GT once and it drove like ass. I'm sticking with 87.

Sorry, Fin, but I have to ask... have you driven ass before? How else would you know?
