So for now i have around 3-400 dollars. I"m looking into just a set of components and the amp. What does everyone suggest. Yes i know JL audio and the pioneer revs, MB quarts and focals. Anything else? I kinda want the highest quality i can get so i guess as of right now i'm looking at the JL's but that might leave me w/ a crappy amp. Is there really a noticable difference between the rev's and JL's. I can't find a place that has them in stock to listen to the difference. Would it be better to have a good amp or good components?

I don't necessarily need a lot of bass but would like to have some compared to my stupid stock amp bypass which sounds like @ss. Would it be possible to get some bass just out of the rear speakers if i were to replace the rears. What kind of speakers would work w/ that setup if that were the case. I'm not really interested in a sub setup, although i would consider adding a sub down the line.

Lastly, what's up w/ the subwoofer ratings? Can someone explain what 10w6 means? I know the 10 is the size of the woofer. Thanks for all the help.

BTW, i've looked at stores and listened to what they have. Its really hard to guage differences w/ an untrained ear. All they had were xplod's and garbage like that which i'm definitely not into anyways.

In the case of JL audios, yes the "10" is the size of the speaker and the 6 is the impedance (resistance) of the speaker.

And I would say that is you want a good setup for minimal cash, I would get a set of good components for the front, leave the rears stock, and get a sub. Even if you only get an 8" sub, or something like that... the bass will be much, much better than you could ever get froma pair of component speakers.
Also, wether or not you plan on replaceing the headunit, you should at least get a good four channel amp. That way, you can use two channels to power your nice component speakers up front, and you can bridge the other two channels to power the sub.

Sub + box= 150
4 channel amp = 150
component speakers = 200

So, youre looking at about 600 with all the wireing and other random stuff, and this is assuming that you build the box and install it yourself. Which I suggest you do, because it isnt really that hard.

Actually, for a 10w6, the "10" means is a 10" driver, but the "w6" means it's a version "6". JL has various lines of subs, starting at the lower w0 line, and upto the awesome w7. For the most part, the higher the "w" number, the more power and louder the subs are. The w7's are freakin' loud, but so are the w6's.

If you want to know what the impedance is, that is after the number.

Example: 12w3-D4

It's a 12" speaker, the w3 version (mid-level), "D" is dual and "4" is the impedance of the voice coil. So "dual 4" means two 4-ohm voice coils.

i already have a panasonic HU w/ a 5v preout or wutever. Its pretty nice and loads mp3 cds at a decent speed.

So a 150 dollar amp won't be crap for what i want huh? Any suggestions for an amp in this price range?

Yes, i will be building the box by myself if i ever do it. There's a really good box instruction on celica.net that i really like. It lets me have the ability to open up and grab my spare if i need to which is real nice.

Woops, my bad.... :chuckles:

As for a decent amp for around $150, this will probably do the trick:

:chuckles: No biggie.

I agree on the amp selection there. You might want to shop around, since Crutchfield tends to be higher than most places.

Yeah, true... I'm sure you can find the same amp for less other places

yeah, i looked around and really didn't find anywhere it was significantly cheaper. I'll keep looking. I'm gonna actually get the more powerful us acoustics amp w/ a kicker comp c1432 or something like that w/ the JL components. Thanks a lot for your help guys. U really helped out an audio newb. I'll be back buggin ya for help w/ install most likely though.
