if I say there's no place to put it on my front bumper (not the stock one, obviously) would they let it slide?
what if I said I got the car from the dealer with the kit I have on (and in reality I didn't) and the dealer didn't give me a front plate? Would that slide?
these laws are pathetic.

I dont know if they would slide, but I keep my front plate sitting on my dash. I still have the stock front but I filled in the holes. A cop gave me crap once and I told him that the car didnt come with a place to mount it. He just told me to get it fixed..I never did.

You should say someone stole it very recently. Sounds silly, but that should get you by with a warning.

It's like you need the front plates anyway. What do they plan to do..Identify you on your way to a crime?
Iv'e been stopped for it threwe times in two years, I always tell em I'm ignorant. "Duh...I didnt know ya had to have one on the front too! They only sent me the stickers for the rear plates. "

So far all that I have gotten is verbal warning. I travel (mostly) the same road to and from work so I hope I don't get pulled over for it by the same cop twice. Its kinda hard to be too stupid with a car like ours.

If you do that, they are going to make you fill out a crapload of paperwork and order you new plates (which you get to pay for of course). Its a real bitch, trust me one of my plates got stolen a couple years ago.

I havent had my plate on since I got the car and that was almost a year ago. Though I had moved to FL where its legal to have the front plate off :). Though now I live back in Missouri. Still not warnings no nothing. Knock on wood.

Wow, that sucks. That line worked like a charm for me. I guess if a cop really wants to get you, he's gonna get you.

Yeah it does suck for sure... the thing is that if a plate gets stolen, the police have to cancel that set of plates (someone could be using your stolen plates on their car... obviously the cops want to know this if they ever pull the thief over, there are a lot of bad implications made by someone driving with stolen plates). For this reason I'm surprised the cop let you go without noting that your plate had been stolen.

I've been driving with no front plate for 5 years. I have even been pulled over and never had it mentioned. I have gotten one $25 "compliance" ticket for it in all that time. And that was from basically a rent-a-cop in this stupid village where they are notorious for pulling people for anything on this certain stretch of road. At least in Illinois, there are tons of people driving around with no front plate, so its not like you stand out that bad if you do it.

My friend got a ticket for not having his front plate even though he had it on his front window. Definitely on my top five list of retarded auto laws. Just something else they can write you up for and collect money for the state.

either live somewhere that doesn't require them(mississippi of course :)) or you could make some holes on the back side of the top of the large opening in the front bumper, and have the plate mounted back there..

Here in Cali, technically they do. That is how they prove it was your car at the intersection with the cameras to catch those running the red. They are cracking down more on cars without front plates because of those cameras.

Frankly, I've gotten out of more tickets because I don't try and bull**** cops when they pull me over. I've actually gotten a ticket about 1 in 5 times that I've gotten pulled over. When cops ask me if I know why they stopped me, I say yeah, I was going a little fast or whatever. It also helps that I have a clean appearance, and am a 25 year old white guy (no racism meant here). Alot of cops are car or motorcycle enthusiasts themselves and if you don't seem like some punk kid with a big mouth, they can be pretty cool with you.

I can atest to that. I got pulled over approx. 12 times in the past one and a half years. I only got 4 tickets.. 3 were dropped. All i did was be straight with the guy. One of the instances was even for drag racing.. and it was dropped.
And oh yeah, I haven't had a front plate for most of that time... not once was it mentioned.

I've used the excuse that I just got the car out of the body shop and they didn't put the plate back on. I told the cop that I would go back to the body shop and have them install it. Let me go with just a warning.

I just got into an accident and they changed my front bumper. I/they didn't get a chance to put it on yet. (then show him you have the plate and the screws ready in your trunk, or tell him.)
worked for me. (though theres a slight chance he might ask you the details of the accident and what not)
Heres another one that worked.
for aftermarket bumpers:
I just changed my front bumper, I didn't get a chance to put it on yet, its in my trunk, I can put it on now if you like (they never want to wait)
basically just think of any excuse and have your front plate ready
to pull out, *like you were going to put it on*
