Is it possible that I can install a shift light on my 2000 celica gt/manual withoout having to buy a new tach for it... I'd like to just use the same tach that came with the car... if you can do , how would you wire that up?
Thanks a lot,
~david

Autometer sells just a shift light, you can connect it and set the activation point with little things I think they call them "pills" or something like that. You buy them and they come like example 5500, 5600, 5700... and so on, just plug in the desired rpm and it will light up.

Actually, your idea is the correct one. You already have a tach, all you need is a shift light to add accuracy and ease of use. No point in getting a Monster Tach, it's a waste of money. Most people get Mosnter Tachs without knowing that the Monster Tach is just as inaccurate as teh stock tach is.
To use a Monster Tach (or any aftermarket tachs for that matter), it's best to recalibrate them. But then, you can always recalibrate your stock tach....
If you have a tach, and plans for modifications will not exceed the rev range indicated on the tach, then there is NO NEED for a Monster Tach (or aftermarket 5 incher rice tachs).
A shift light, however, is a wise investment.

note the posted shift lites still need a rpm trigger.
you'd wire it to the tach wire behind the instrument panel or tap in the ECU. i could take mine out and do a write up if interested (when you buy the shift lite :D)

I still wanna see a way to recalibrate the gauges in the celica, is there a guide or something out there that I missed?

I think the only way to do that properly is to get it done professionally.... There's a place here that does it... mostly to help people fight tickets. They put the car on the dyno and tell you how accurate your speedo is.... from the factory all cars are off a little... my celica is 2% fast.
I wanted to get that litte shift light as well... but then you need a RPM module which is like $70 and you need the pills and the light itself....it adds up pretty quick... it does the same as the big shift light only IMO looks better cuz it's smaller... maybe some day I'll get one....
