Yeah, we all know the outcome to this one, but I wanted to see how badly I would lose. I was following my g/f home from work last night, and she drives faster than she should in her four door Cavalier, so I had to speed to keep up with her. Well, we end up flying by a last model M3 and then we hit a red light. I pull up next to my g/f and jokingly rev on her. The light turns green, and she takes off. I didn't launch hard cuz there were railroad tracks just after the intersection, but once we went over them, I took off. I hit about 80 (in a 60) and saw that my g/f was about a car length behind me and to my left, and then I see these headlights come up very fast behind me and tail gate me. I instantly thought, the M3! so I start flooring it. By this time, I'm at about 90-95 but I didn't downshift into 4th...just kept it in 5th cuz I wasn't totally serious about getting my ass beat by the M3. Anyway, he eventually has enough room to switch lanes and pass me. I had a flashback of the Viper passing me with almost the same ease just a few hours earlier in the day (that story's posted in another thread) and watched him run away. I went to about 110 mph and then let off cuz he was obviously many 18-wheelers away and then I saw him flash his hazards. I laughed and flashed my high beams a few times and then I saw the light turn yellow and then red in front of the M3. He could have easily made that light with the speed he was going, but he braked hard and waited for me to pull up next to him. I looked over and smiled, nodding my head, and he did the same. The light stayed red long enough for my g/f and some traffic to catch up behind up. I looked in my rear view and hoped to gods that there weren't any cops back there and then waited for the light to turn green. When it did, we both didn't launch hard. As I hit about 3500 rpm I noticed him accelerate hard, so I floored it to redline, chirped 2nd and saw he was already about a car and a half ahead of me. Take it to redline of 2nd, shift, he's like a bus or two ahead of me. I finally take it to about 85-90 and let off...he's tail lights in the distance. Then my freaking g/f does a flyby past me at like 90, so I had to catch up to her. Before the M3 turned right at a stop sign, I noticed his license plate: "NVMENOT"
That was some fun shiz.

First off, no chance it was a late model M3 cause he would have just blown the doors off of you. My bud has a 00 SS with exaust and his older brother has a 2002 M3 (very rich and spoiled kids, never paid for anything in their lives) The M3 puts about 1 or 2 carlengths on his SS every time (1/4 mile), and there both manuals and both good drivers. It sounded to me like he was pulling slowly meaning that a GTS with the same mods might have even been right up next to him, My guess is it was either a really old M3 or it was just a newer 328i, which can come with the big wheels and agressive look kinda like the M3, easily mistakeable. But those new M3's are freaking rediculous, he would have put 10 cars on you (at least) in a matter of seconds no joke. everyone in here knows how fast the SS's are and the M3 is noticably quicker. I dont mean to hate, but this story can NOT be entirely true, maybe he just wasnt trying.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. By saying last model, I meant the model before the current one. It was by no means the newest model M3. And at no point was he pulling "slowly"....not even when we were near the 100s...there must have been like a 10-15 mph difference when he passed me the first time.

ya, the older M3's are pretty quick but i would bet that a GTS with intake and exaust wouldnt be THAT far behind in the 1/4 mile, off the line maybe, but i dont know. Ive actually never riden in a GT nor have I raced one so i really have no comparison of the two. All I know is that they dont have lift, and i couldnt imagine racing someone without that life saver kick in the ass after 6k. next time im out ill have to try and pick a fight with one so I can compare.

buddy what are u saying do u know how fast m3's are? old or new, no way a celica with an intake exhaust is gonna even keep up with it.
EZ LIVIN from this board has a gt-s and his older bro has the older M# and from what he told me he pumps him like there's no tommorow.
I drove an older yellow M3 with 17" stock chromes (beautiful) once and thats a ****ing car and a half, if u wanna drice hard get that.

A lot of people use that term to describe the newest model of a car, which is incorrect. A "late model" M3 would be anything prior to the 2002 model. The term "late" meaning "past." Ie. The late Albert Einstein. Or the late Chris Farley. In Automotive terms, it's gotten so out of hand that I think most people believe the current model platform is the "late model." :(

he said last model not late model, as in "last model they have made" I thought, and i just looked up 1/4 mile times on a 94 M3, they run the 1/4 in 14.3 or so, so i was perfectly accurate when i said that a GTS with intake and exaust would not be THAT far behind the M3. Here is the web site check it out yourself.

The M3 hasnt become a sub 14 sec car until 2002, now it is capable of mid 13's pretty easily. (im sure a super good pro driver could have reached high 13's in a 2002 M3, but not the average racer)

I didnt mean to sound like i was saying that the M3 is not a great sports car. I was basically comenting on how much of a difference the old and the new ones are. The old ones are still amazing and i would take one over my celica any day of the week, but i know from experience that on the straights they are not as special as they are on a road course. They are meant to be street cars and they dont have THAT great of acceleration, i mean, neither does the celica, but from about 20mph role i think a celica with CAI/EX would only be a car or two length behind, Ill try and find one and find out, I dont mind seeing the nice ass on the M3 anyway, hehe.
