Effective Sept. 1, 2003 a new law will be in place. Being a "Reformed" racer myself it only proves how bad is it starting to get in Austin and Houston.

Personally, I don't think that is harsh enough at all. To stop and to deter are two seperate things.. it may deter it, but it won't stop it.

Not really, the Kmart part is sorta. The thing is now though that the Texas Leg. is getting tough on Streetracing. The cops are tired of playing around down here, talking up to $2400, possible 30 days in jail, 1 year suspended lisence, and your car is taken away. Its all new here for us, found out about it at our Saturday night meet. that means for alot of us we have to constantly drive defensively so not to give a cop any reason to think you are racing. Not really worried as I have been careful since December when I got 2 tickets in one week. Learned my lesson.

people will race, no matter what. street racing, is riskier, but chepaer than going to a track 15-100 miles away everyday. unless u get caught of course.
street racing , atleats in phily, seems to have gotten really organized, its those stubbron asses who go dip traffic in rush hour or just do stupid **** at the race sthat hurts mainly. its illegal regardless, but in sum places, its a more controled and safe enviornment than u think.

Yeah I hear ya. Thats what we use to have is an organized place to race, downfall of that is that Ricers find out about it go up there before we get there screw it all up for us or follow us and call all there friends up as we're heading there. Every "secret" place we have had get discovered. To me, even if the law wasn't made or I got the tickets before I still would stop racing due to the fact that these "tards" are dumba$$es that endanger others without caring until its they're a$$ thats being pried out by AFD. The way I look at it is that it'll give some of us a chance to start over and just get a Saturday night car show started. As for the track, our closest one is 35 miles from Austin, yeah I know it sounds far, but I would rather keep my car and stuff and have the timeslips instead of a Ciatation. Austin use to have one of the most active streetracing scenes at one time, but all things have to come to an end at sometime.

yep, they have that law in florida since last october. but some of the cops are taking the law out of hand. i had a good friend almost lose her car, cause she was following a friend home, and she rode 3rd gear a little (not flooring it at all) and the cops pull'd her over and her friend at gun point, and had them sit in the cruiser for nearly and hour, till tow truck show... the only thing the said was she was racing him, even tho she was at the speed limit. she did get the whole deal wiped clean (but it still cost her $$$ in court costs). its a good law, and it will help stop the retard that race in high traffic areas, but some people are getting grab'd for just "looking fast":gap:

is street racing the only illegal activity where the spectators can be charged as well?
hmm.. it'd be funny if two people are racing on the streets, and the cops pull over every car and their mother and accuse them of spectating. :chuckles:

It may seem funny but thats what they could and probably will do if you happen to be driving a flashy import at the time. Accuse you of spectating or participating. Just pray no one leaves A car show too fast! :gap:
