Other night I heard a weird ticking noise, got out and opened my hood and it was making a high paced ticking noise. When revv'd the exhaust sound is way more high pitched. Something is DEFIENTLY wrong. Me and my roommate think its a rocker arm, or Im dropping a cyclinder. But were not sure. Anyone have any other input on this? I am gonna take it in tomorrow. Hopefully they can look at it same day.

Hmmm... My car usually makes more high tone exhaust sounds when the weather is really cold.. Maybe because it's winter? Also, the ticking sound, it could be your timing belt maybe?

Its about mid 40's out. I have never heard my stock exhaust sound like this. It sounds ricey. the ticking is almost as fast as if you viberate your tongue.

Well, rather than have us all guess, lets start with the basics. You've checked thoroughly for any loose nuts and bolts.
You've obviously done NO mods to your car because you would have listed them so we would know what we are dealing with.
You've hit no large potholes lately, etc.
Sounds to me like it could be an exhaust leak. They can make a high pitched noise and hav ean even rythm.
Get a $20 compression gauge and check the cylinder pressures. A bad cylinder or valve part will typically mainifest itself with low pressure in the effected cylinder.

how do you check the pressure with that gauge? and what kind of results do you look for (if everything's ok)?

You remove the spark plugs (preferablly all 4), disable the ECU (ideally) so you don't get the injectors firing and don't get spark trying to occur, then you screw the pressure gauge into the spark plug hole.
Mash the gas pedal and crank the engine. After a few cranks you will read the gauge. I'd have to look in the manual to tell you what the reading should be, but it is in the neighborhood of 220 psi.

I would think in a 7th gen Celica it is NOT the timing belt since it doesn't have one.
The timing *chain* maybe, but certainly not the belt.

is pulling the 2 ecu fuses enough to disable the spark plugs and injectors?

I have a similar problem, I took mine to 2 toyota dealers and was told it was the injectors making the noise......

The loud cicking tapping noise for sure is the belt tensioner it kind of sounds like a diesel right? If so its the belt tensioner get it replaced I'm on my 3rd one and its doing it again.
