This is my first oil change. What is the best oil to use for the GT and is it ok to use the synthetic or do I wait til the 2nd oil change?

amsoil, red line, royal purple are all the high end brands. Up to you. The Castrol GTX at Costco is pretty cheap and works fine on my car, it's not synthetic though.

I wouldn't put in synthetic until around 15K. You need to allow your engine to wear a little.

Can I purchase amsoil, red line, royal purple at the local car store or are they special order?

Amsoil - Scroll down and there are Independent dealers by state or you can Order Online at the Amsoil Store:

Your engine will be fine using synthetic on the first change. The main breaking in period is over (I assume?) and any further wear won't be stopped by the synthetic, only delayed, which is good. Amsoil and Redline are the top end, but if the car is just a daily driver I don't think there's any special benefit from them.

I used Royal Purple. 1st suggested oil I ran across. I'm not disappointed with my purchase at all. One definite benefit that I've seen is that it helps with constant vvt-i change. It was pretty harsh during the changes sometimes. Now it a whole lot smoother. Thanks for all of the info.
