i need a really wide wheel - and the offset would be really high(assuming that would make the wheels stick in toward the car more so i can get a wider wheel). anything over 8.5" if possible. and i dont want to have to resort to wider fenders. so does anybody know what is the widest wheel size available for the celica?
8", 8.5" is pushing it a LOT

I had 17"x8 and they were perfect

17 x 7.5 would be all id put on the car. Its not pushing enough power.

i dont think going wider slows the car down especially if your going lighter.

Thats the idea... but how many people have 9.5" wide wheels on here that weigh less than 20lbs.
I just dont think its a good idea to go 7.5 - 8.0 or above on a 140/180hp FWD car,
Now FI/NOS different story.

thank you all for you help, but the only reason i wanna go wider , more than 8", is cuz it just looks better IMO.

Hey Nu Concept: One way to make the wider look is to get a thicker tire. 225/17/45 give a nice robust look to a car.

if you loose weight it may keep your time the same but it will slow your top speed and if weight is the same it will lower speed slightly and may lower your ET as well. Thats why most serious drag cars normally have pizza cutters on the front.

EXACTLY griffin. i dont know if top speed will go down much if at all.. cuz rolling weight is pretty much different than a standing start...but ur right about the pizza cutter wheels. less mass, less frontal mass, more aerodynamics...but wider is usually for more traction, and our celicas dont have 300 hp as to where we need to have 9 inch wide wheels to get the power down.i mean, 400 hp bimmer (m5) and 333 hp m3, they have 8.5 i THINK if not 9.0 an dthey are also rwd. etc. that much tire n wheel on a celica would prolly look nice, but would be a waste of money and would slow u down i think noticably enuff.

You don't want super wide wheels/tires that stick out the sides of the fenders do you? Please say you don't. I think 7.5 is as wide as you wanna go. 8 is pushing it.

You can make 8.5" wheels fit, but the offset and tire have to be chosen very carefully. An 8" wheel with a 225 tire and 35 offset will fill the wheel wells perfectly from my experience.

Just look at my gallery. http://drive.shift21.com/
If you get the right offset, 17x8 looks perfect. Mine didn't stick out one bit.

you can go with 19'z x 8.5 with 30 series tires, do a sport drop from HR 1.5" and roll the fenders a little bit and you will be fine. no rub

Thinking about getting 19 x 8.5 wheels. With 225/40/19 tires.
My Celica is dropped with Tanabe DF210's 2.5"
I would like to know - for sure, if I will have fitment, rubbing issues?
Do they not make a 16x8 or 16x8.5? the smaller rim would give you better overall torque then a 17, and would hopefully be lighter too

Dont see the point in putting on that wide a wheel unless u av a rapid car. My cousin put on 9" but his car wasnt producing enough downforce and it felt like he was riding on ice going around bends......he actually put that car into a tree!!
