Smog Checked Intakes?

I heard that adding an intake to your car will not pass smog check, or atleast visual. Any truth? or does it even matter if it passes visual or not?

Well by the looks of your location (Hayward), you must be in california. I live in El Sobrante CA... I heard that the CAI will make you fail your smog because of the visual issue. I believe you don;'t need to do a smog for the first 5 years since your car is new. Also it depends on who you go to. Some places don't car and some give a damn. I have a Injen CAI and I know a place that will let me pass since I know him. Hope this helps....

You are correct. It sucks. There is not suppose to be an open filter element inside your engine compartment. Any intake will really fail smog. Only really asswhole cops will give u such a stuped ticket. CAI on a CEl shouldnt generate that ticket considering the cop cant even see the damn filter. what up wit dat??/

SMog wise its fine but the visual is a no go ...

Yea i live in Hayward California(not gonna stalk me now r ya?) but theres alota people here with intakes which made me wonder if this was true.

I say, don't worry to much about it until the time comes around. When you get the slip from DMV about you smog check, you have a good 3-4 months to look, research and ask on who will let you go and pass smog. The CAI should not effect the results of the smog check. It's just Cali has such stupid rules and regulations..... Besides, Hayward is pretty know of a lot of import cars fixed up and all. I remember driving down there and seeing tons of imports on Hwy 880,,, haha,, And if they have CAI, they must have a way to pass smog. I say get it if you don;t have it. You will love the feeling. I love my Injen CAI!!!! Hope this helps ya...

PS: Hayward has all the good import shops or in that area. Here in Berkeley/El Sobrante area, NOTHING!!!! DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! haha

isnt smog check every 2 years?

if its 5 years i have nothing to worry about!

i was going to switch back to stock intake the end of next summer, cuz that would be 2 years from when i got my car.

but 5 years, DAM thats HELLA far away from now.

Yeah your right, it's every 2 years. I think the first 5 years of a new car, you don't have to worry about the smog check. After 5 years, that's when the every other years starts kickin in. I''m not 100% sure but that's what I heard. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong

Yea i was looking into the injen one as well but that new intake posted by that person..(haha i for got his name) that said they usually outperform their competitors ...

Its cool having alota import shops cuz you can go there and look around you know.. but doesnt really help out when you have no cash haha...

Ive checked out that place now and then but they dont seem to post as much as this place. its cool tho
