View Full Version : No more begging! At least one GT-S due in Jan.!

I am told that a complete GT-S turbo kit is 95% complete, and that the kit should be available no later than the first of the year!
The HP target for the GT-S is 300! Kit would include intercooler, fuel management unit, 10.5:1 head gasket, and all the other goodies. Should be pushing around 6 psi, although it's a great starting point for those who would want to put on the TRD low comp pistons when they come out.
Figure with the appropriate 8.5:1 ratio and all the upgraded fuel parts that come with the turbo kit, anyone who should be able to run around 11 psi, which should translate to 330-340 hp.
I'm also told that the turbo manifold should be available as a separate purchase one the entire kit is released.
Expect $700 for the manifold, or $3700 for the entire kit...
YAY! Finally!

ALRIGHT!
Really happy to see this get done.
Any ballpark price on a Toyota install to preserve warranty, or will they not warranty this turbo?

im sorry but this doesnt sound realistic. With a thicker head gasket you would need a longer timing belt/chain whatever.. 3700 sounds too cheap.. TRD cant offer this because your engine would last all of a year with this on. 300hp would not happen with 6psi of boost.. Not a flame but where did you get this information from?

Anymore details on what is included in the kit? So far we've got :
1. Turbo (type???)
2. Intercooler (type&core???)
3. FMU (similar to Apex'i AFC?)
4. Head Gasket
5. Manifold
What else?
Thanks for the info, David.

If you read DavidDrapers response to previous questions, you would have seen that he replied and said that the turbo kit is not being made by TRD or Kazuma. The only thing that he did mention about TRD was their lower compression pistons.

Intercooled, yes. Fuel stuff, yes. Whether or not that includes new injectors/pump/rail, etcetera, I don't know.

also: you sure about those numbers? if XS boosted 7.5psi on 11.5:1 and got 280ish hp at the crank, and 250ish whp, how can you boost 6psi on 10.5:1 and get 300hp?

just so everyone has a clue.. just cuz the kit is only 3700.. you better start saving alot more than that for the install cost becuase it aint gonna be cheap.. im thinkin upwards of 2gs.. its basically an engine rebuild..

and for all you auto guys, if you want to run over 260-280 hp, plan on a tranny rebuild.
www.levelten.com (http://www.levelten.com)
you might be able to get away with just tougher ATF, ATF cooler, torque converter, and valve body calibration with 300hp. maybe.
obviously any more or if you want it to last, you'd need either their rebuild kit which they ship to you, or preferably, the entire $3200 rebuild by sending tranny to them. not to mention fees from whatever shop you use to get the tranny out and over to them and back in.

2g's for install would make it about as expensive as the XS kit (Does this new kit include upgraded internals?). That's too bad. Looks like we'll have to look at performance to truly pick the better turbo kit, since price will be about the same. In any case, it's cool to have more than one option.
well you could try installing that bad boy yourself. http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif
unless you have time and alot of car knowledge..i wouldnt install it yourself.. you have to take the head off the car..which is a project..

Well, actually, I'm not telling. Isn't that awful?
Sorry guys, I just don't want to give anything away just yet.
I will say that the intercooler is a Spearco intercooler, which speaks well since that's the intercooler of choice for Chris Rado (and many others).

Of course it will, but if you're hardcore racing enough to put a turbo in your car, you should be hardcore enough to expect an engine rebuild due to racing. Besides, you're reducing your engine's life by just driving it everyday, so what's your point?

5:6 it will cost u more than $3700 before installation.
3:2 its will be made with a different compression ratio.
Everyone just sit tight and use the Celi and your next car be boostable.

Now, if I could just get a larger displacement head put together....
2.0L + 8.5:1 + 15 psi = 400 hp?

If we could actually get the GT-S kit to put out 300 hp, just going off of flywheel numbers, it would have 1 hp / 8.3 lbs.
The 300 hp Civic did 0-60 in 5 flat, so my hope is that this setup would put the GT-S's into the 4.5-4.8 range.
Mid-12's are not out of the question with the appropriate hardware....
The GT-S is not ready for dynoing just yet, but I'll keep you posted...

he meant Jan 2002.

Expect $700 for the manifold, or $3700 for the entire kit...

Damn, all I haveto say is that this thread is twice as old as my car is. Wow, David, bro., you mean to tell me that you have been working on the turbo for the GT since 2001? That is a long damn time. I hope all this is worth it. I had no idea you had been working on this project that long.
I guess people didn't realize the transmission blows up in a fireball of poison acid at those power levels . . . .

jeez you guys caught me off guard! I NEED TO FIND A JOB NOW.
also: you sure about those numbers? if XS boosted 7.5psi on 11.5:1 and got 280ish hp at the crank, and 250ish whp, how can you boost 6psi on 10.5:1 and get 300hp?

Easy you put a bigger turbo on there and push more air than a smaller one at a lesser PSI. It is a bit boggling at first but all turbos don't push the same amount of air at 14.7 psi.
