Well i charged manny's battery and set down my hood...but i guess i didn't close it all the way cuz i went for a drive to test out the present he gave me (rear bar)...

Anyway, my hood flew up, hit my roof, i slammed my breaks and it basically snapped off kinda @ the hinges and slid across the ground a good 50 feet. Luckily no one was hurt or around. I wasn't going real fast, so it really shows you how light the hoods are. It held up well considering it slid across the ground and stuff. I don't know howmuch the roof will cost to get fixed, that's my main concern, the hood really doesn't bother me too much. Here are pics.

hood pins. the latches on those hood usually aren't all that strong, even if the hood is closed correctly.

Damn! Another reason why people need to put hood pins when they put a CF hood on their car.

I did the same damned thing with the hood on my GST back in the day. Forgot to latch it and the damned thing blew up on me at like 5mph and smacked my window. Fortunately for me no damage was done to the car, only to the hood which was destroyed.

well the issue isn't that i don't have hood pins. The issue is that i just didn't close it. I kinda got into a little dispute about something (lol, no comment) and forgot what i was doing. So, i forgot to shut the hood all the way and just set it down. The hood is destroyed (but surprisingly held up good for what it went through). And damage was done to the car...the roof has some dents in it and a small crease which i'll show my bodyshop tomorrow (they'll laugh at me). But if you do look in the pic you can see clearly i have hood pins...

oh yea, one other thing got damaged (my poor winshield wiper) it got pinched a little. I am actually convinced that might have saved my windshield by looking at it now that i looked over the damage in the light.

oh yea, and since i had to get from queens NYC back to NJ we just put a bolt straight through the hood. But i thank, manny, louie, viola, etc. the whole NY crew. You guys seriously helped me out, and louie i couldn't have made it home w/o your quick thinking and just all around knowledge of what to do. So, thanks guys.

yea, i should actually go take pics of how it turned out...or what i eman is this. The hoodkinda split in two (the backing or the backside of the hood tore away from the top and i was left w/ 2 little stumps attatched to the hinges. But, considering how far it slid and tumbled down teh road i was surpised i still had a hood that i could use on my way home. I just fear how much the roof will cost to fix (it's not noticeable in the pics), buti hope that it can be taken out easy.

Al ready got him the rear chassis brace for this birthday. He'll have ot wait till the big 21st b-day to get a cf hood from this side of the tri-state lol.
in any case... if he had not been so thickheaded to argue with me of all people..this wou;dve been avoided. Mike I am sooo jokin lol.

Na but really..I came back from test driving Viola's car and I see my console with wires all out and sh*t and was thinkin..hmm..where are those guys. I looked and see Mike's car is gone.
So I look ova to some of the guys fiddlin with their labtop (Long Island thing here is to play ur music videos with labtops during the evening lol :D) ... and they say..ohhh Lou is driving his car and I'm sayin to myself... ok... I hope all his well. I was barely out of my car 2 minutes when Koch comes driving through and keeps going. Only thing is... no hood. Funniest site but also the most sad because when he got out..I thought he was seriously gonna like pass out.

Its all good Mike. The rest of the guys and gal(s) cant wait for u to come out here again. The girls I had set up for us to chill with later that night (muhahahaha) lol.. told me to tell u "awwww...so sorry that happened..next time we'll see you".
Its all good. If you wanna get another hood soon I'll be here. Just glad ur ok.

 it's nto refinishable. It'll be cut up and made itno something nice i guess. LoL. i'll figureout something to do w/ it, but it's pretty much trash. This is a good reason to always save your stock hood if you can because now i'm just going to go into my basement put that sucker back on, getmy roof done and i'll be good as new. Sure i'll be down the cost of the hood plus fixing my roof, but at least i don't need to scramble to find a new stokc hood or anything.

hence the reason i'm happy...that could have happened which would have been much worse...especially having to drive home as far as i did. But, i'm going to the bodyshop in a second to get an estimate, i already put on the old hood and it's good as new. I don't think the hinges are broken, i just don't remember them opening so much, but i also thinkthat's because i never tried to.

my hood stayed on when it happened... but i guess the raised hoodscoop vs my windshield wiper while going ~75mph is what really got my windshield.... sucks bro... i'm sorry to hear about the incident

Sorry to hear the news Koch. There is some solace that there was no passenger damage and that some of the ol' boys have been there too.

sorry to hear about all your experiences. i was planning on getting a carbon fiber hood, but now since ive seen what can happen, it may have changed my mind. i know their light and all, but how could they have flied open if their latched on. if i do get a CF hood, i dont plan to put the hood pins on. i want a clean look on my hood. doesnt the hood already come with a hook that hooks up to the stock latch?? im just real hesitant in ordering one.

hmm dude..hood was NOT latched. He jumped my car (after killin the battery lol) and then somehow he forgot to latch it back before testin out the chassis brace. It was all really a freak accident but in no way did it reflect directly on the hood. If anythin had it been a stock hood...his windsheild wouldve definitely got smashed in because it wouldnt have flown up but came directly at him.

So if anythin..its a plus for the hood.

yes, in a way i was happy it wasn't the stock hood. that would have really messed up the windshield severely. however it might have shut when i let it down, but you never know right...so, either way what happened happened, and you can't change the past.

I guess it just depends on the hood I guess... if your not planning to go over 75 on the freeway, I think you should be ok... but I still recommend hoodpins because you will never know... plus hoodpins dont look that bad on celicas anyway

i don't know, i would get hoodpins, but i like the way they look. Regardless, always juts make sure that you latch it all the way shut :)

I have yet to hear of an incident of a CF hood flying up because the latch actually broke off. I've gone up to 90mph a few times without any problems (knock on wood). I think as long as you make sure it's secured properly each time you close it you should be fine w/out hood pins.
