ok record straightened right now....
the k is the temp. the higher the temp, the more towards purple it gets but the less light
4100k - white, maybe some blue, brightest
5000k - white with more blue, not as bright
6000k - white and really blue, less bright as 5000k
7000k - blue/purple, less light than 6000k
8000k - dark blue/purple least bright
philips doesn't sell a kit. they make the components. you can't buy a phillips hid kit. you can buy a mcculloch, xenondepot, hids4less kit with phillips parts. just like our cars. you can't buy a denso car but you can buy denso parts to put in your car. phillips and most german brands are the best. the worst are the ones from asia.

The 4100k bulbs are clear, and everything above has a colored coating on it. That's why they get darker, the higher the temp, the darker the coating.

well actually the Philips real deal 6000K are clear. its just the inside uses different gas/salts (i really dont know) to change the colour to a more bluer look.

i know of certain kits, such as hid4less that don't coat their bulbs but use the diffrent salts to get a really deep blue/purple color. but it's also 700 bucks for that kit as well

ya i have misterjung's 6000k kit and the bulb is clear so im confused as to where you got that information.
not all kits are the same. some kits have tinted bulbs and some dont

That's right. Some cheaper kits to get the effect have the HID capsule tinted to give a higher K appearance. True and good quality capsules are not tinted. So phillips is the real deal with 6000K. I have seen 7000K capsules tinted, and if so, reduce the amount of visible light on the road. So in my opinion, if you want a higher color appearance, I'd get the 6000k. I have a 5000K kit, and even though it is the brighest, it really gets boring afterwards.

most likely i will order a kit from hids4less. they sell a 6 or 7k kit that actually has the right salts and stuff in them. no tinting. as well as a 3 year warranty on everything :)
