OK, on my old car, I waxed it a couple times and in the process got some of the wax on the black lining of the car (it's on almost all cars at the top of windows and such). The problem was the damn stuff was almost impossible to get off, and sometimes I couldn't get it off at all. What do you guys do to avoid getting wax on the black lining?
I don't bother too much with "avoiding" getting wax on black (rubber or plastic).
I have this stuff made by Mothers? I think it's called "Back to Black". (Haven't looked at it in a while, sorry.) Anyway...it works great. Just use a little cloth and put it on the cloth and then wipe - being very careful as you don't want to put this oily substance on your newly waxed paint surfaces. I use it on the wiper blades & side skirts as well. Highly recommended.
Good luck

I have heard to use masking tape to block off areas that you don't want covered. Painter's tape comes in 2-3" wide rolls and shouldn't leave any residue on the plastic when it is removed.
Back to Black is another option.

You should look for a wax that doesn't stain rubber trim. I use Zymol Japon and I never have to worry. Otherwise, I also use something called 303 Aerospace Protectant on all the rubber and plastic trim, it keeps everything looking brand new - but without that "just used Armor All" oily looking/feeling film. Works great on all the engine plastics too, and that area by the wipers.
