back to the original point of your thread....
about the rattle that u got at about 4000-4500 rpm. It sounds like something resonating, right? I had that problem. A dealership actually caused it when they replaced my belt tensioner because of squeeking. Two days after i got the car back that sound started. I was positive it was coming from the belt tensioner assembly since the sound came from that area. I had another dealership look at it and they said the bearing on the belt tensioner arm went bad. I think it was loose. They replaced it and the sound went away..... 2 weeks later the sound came back (!!$#&$#@). I can't even be bothered to take it to them again. This will be the 5th time they've looked at the belt tensioner assembly to fix a noise from it.

I've also noticed a bunch of other noises lately that are beginning to annoy me. The someone what noisey idle is annoying but that's pretty common with 4 cylinder engines. If there's a loud tapping u might want to do a compression check to check your valves. It might just be noisey injectors tho. I had the dealership install a new ecu and new injectors in my 2000 gts according to a TSB they had. Seemed to make the engine run a bit better.

The car also makes a strange rubbing noise when taking hard left turns. Might be due to something with the Teins since another person with Teins mentioned that noise.

2nd gear on the car is sometimes hard to get into. Feels like something is blocking it sometimes. Redline shifts from 1st to 2nd grind about 30% of the time. I'm waiting for the trans to self destruct so i can get it replaced under warrenty like others have. I don't think this is caused by bad driving as i was proficient with manual driving before i bought the car.

I had originally planned to keep the car for a while and maybe supercharge or turbo it, but i don't expect the car to last more than another 2-3 years now so i'll probably sell it before the warrenty is done. Maybe the 30k mile service will fix things. Hope so for $200.

i had my belt tensioner replaced and after they did that the sound went away..right when i got out of the dealership the noise came back and i went right back into the service department. ended up that my bearing in my waterpump warped and needed to be replaced. maybe some of your squeeking noises are coming from the water pump like my car did. just my experience that i thought i share with you guys
