View Full Version : Celica GT-S hits .88 skidpad, does this mean the GT gets the same score?

The GT-S recieved a skidpad score of .88 on car and driver. Does this mean the GT version also handles just as well? I know that they have the exact same suspension but do you think power can be a factor in the skidpad test? Thanks in advance.

In the official parts list (from this site), the GT-S front springs are a different part number than the GT.
The '00-'02 GT and '00 GT-S share the same part number for the front struts, but the '01 - '02 GT-S gets different part numbers.
In the rear, the only different suspension part I found in the list was a small bracket and bushing, the springs and shocks are the same.
But by far the primary difference is tires, the GT receives crap, while the GT-S tires doesn't. :)
The GT does weigh a little less which should be an advantage, everything else being equal.
As for power, I think a severely underpowered car will have a poor showing on the skidpad, but I don't think GT is that underpowered ;)
FYI: In Japan, the "Super Strut" suspension and a helical LSD ( ) are available, and I'd expect them to impact any skidpad results.
PUT I/E/H on the GT and it will pull some nice #'s, but tthe chasis in the GT and GT-S are very well sculpted, i love this car!

According to the part numbers for the front suspension:
In 2000, the GT and GT-S shared the same struts.
In 2000, the GT auto / GT manual / GT-S auto / GT-S each had their own unique springs (presumably small differences to account for engine/tranny weight?).
In 2001-02, the GT-S got different front struts (the GT kept the old shared ones).
In 2001-02, the GT auto / GT manual / GT-S auto / GT-S all got their own unique springs, all different than all the '00 springs.
Here's the relevant section:

The only other changes I see elsewhere in the front suspension section:

The '01 -'02 GT got the upsized GT-S front brakes

In October '99, the front lower control arm changed

i knew i wasn't crazy, i bet the auto springs are softer :wtf: like the motor mounts, car is too bouncy for me around corners.

I'd expect the automatic to have springs have higher spring rates, to deal with the added weight of the auto tranny, but I'm just guessin' :gap:
As for the mounts, they are different part numbers, but what makes you say the automatic Celica mounts are softer?
