Well....we couldn't get the car back up to HotShot for the piping to be reworked in time, so no runs yet....
I may very well end up taking a Spyder up since I don't have a Celica right now....At least once the piping is done on that beast I can get it tuned pretty quickly, and that should save time....well nevermind, the tuning's already been done on these engines....I suppose it could save some time on the GT....Hmmm...well anyway, the car is supposed to be headed back there soon, so hopefully then....

Yep!!! Oldster is right. Thanks for the support Oldster. Here's what happened...
I was driving down Pacific Coast Highway going to pick my mom up. I had to go get my W-2 from the IRS office so I was going to take her to lunch afterwords. At any rate. As I came off the Traffic Circle some moron in a Chevy Tahoe Opened his door right as I was passing by him going about 30mph-35mph. Well let's just say the door hit my front bumper and just slided down the right side of the car like a hot knife through butter. Luckly I didn't swerve to much or I would have been creamed (the cars usually go about 60mph there!) I got out of the car and noticed... The hood was bent on the right side, the front bumper was falling off and the whole right side was torn off, the quarter panel had a 4-5 inch deep slice all the way to the door and almost hit the engine (missed it by about a 1/4 of an inch!) The right front rim was damaged, the right wheel well was destroyed, the right side skirt was torn off a bit, and the rear bumper was slided a bit. Pretty ugly!!! Thank god my lowering spring were off or it would have slided through the windshield. I'm fine... a little depressed of course this was my first major accident and my car was destroyed.
I took it straight to the car body place and they did an estimate at about $5,000-$8,000 in damage.
The vicious bunny is now in a coma!
Sorry about it guys, let yah down again...
Matt

Aww man too bad matt.. I hope you can get it fixed!!! (and that the turbo still works at that point hehe) i got in a minor thing... got backed into.. 9000$ damages.. it didn't even look bad at all.. there was just a tiny hole in the bumper and some scrapes. anyway.. good luck with that.. insurence covers it?

Yeah, Matt will be fine =)
As for the turbo, the manifold was made, piping was done, but there was a problem--the way the manifold was made, it would force people to cut their center pipes!
That was deemed unacceptable by yours truly, so I need to get the car back up there....Well now, I need to get another car up there....
I believe I have a volunteer with a M/T, so I may go that route...I needed someone with a M/T anyways to make sure the piping fit.

sorry to hear about your car, bro, hope it turns out ok.
hm. question, how different is the 1ZZ laid out in the engine bay than the 2ZZ?
could you adapt the manifold to the 2ZZ and for a T3/T4 turbo? and just sell that?
Oo DaRk StAr oO
02-02-2002, 06:49 PM
The 2ZZ is much like the RSX-S. The compression ratio is SOOO high that its kinda useless to Turbo. Now, if you get a hold of some Lower Compression pistons then you figure out how to keep VVT and lift with the turbo and run it smoothly. Then you have a 2ZZ turbo. Many companies have failed here (XS is one, yes the kit is running but it isnt that great now is it.) Dave Draper is waiting to see what happens with the Blitz Supercharger. We'll see what happens.

I bet if David gave us the physical dimensions of the volume the turbo is going to be in the engine bay, one of us engineers who have ProE or some of CAD system would be able make up a 3-D model? Just a suggestion.

I'm tired of getting excuses of "not been able" to finish, dyno, run at track,etc...They've been working on this kit fo about 5-6months.. and haven't finished it yet! That is BS. If I start to do my turbo set-up now for the GTS I bet I will be done before you release your kit Draper. I think WC had reasonable time and reaserch$$$ to finish this kit product already...Know they are going to stop just bc's the downpipe is weld-on and not bolt-on...!
What's this crap? Forget about bolting it on.! Test it and post results.....! price,etc....I dont think I or anyone here mind paying $40 to a muff-shop for a simple weld...
Bring results....Not excuses...I'm tired of this..

Red-One,
Your frustration is understandable. I'm sure many GT owners feel similar. But try to have patience with this. I'm sure Draper and his associates are doing the best they can. The only other route is to fabricate a custom turbo. It's up to you.

Damn man.... I want a turbo. I was holding out for Davids turbo but now I am thinking about just go get a custom one done. This Celica started 1999 and 2.5 years later still no turbo?? Hope that Matrix with the same engine will motivate aftermarket company to produce something for our car... Did not really want to bitch but I have waited 2.5 years I deserve to let some anger out don't I?

Well I'm going custom...My system is going to run me about $2k-2.5k .It's not a big science. Just don't go everkill on miscl. or expensive part's that won't add any performance. A nicely designed 2.5K turbo system will outpower a more expensive$6k system if done properly. The trick is in the tunning and not getting greedy after the install if not you'll end up with a bag of expensive paper weights.. I'll go my way save $$$ doing it and selectingn the products I want and not being rammed! By some big company "Brand name". Sweet & simple. NO TO-4 just a good fast spooling well designed powerfull syst.

Well, you have to keep in mind that I am not a turbo-kit-builder by trade. I know who to go to, and I know how to organize it all, but given the level of difficulty I've had getting funded and approved for this and the fact that I have to take care of all the other things my job requires, it's kind of surprising that it's going anywhere at all.
Also, there's a lot more to making a full bolt-on turbo kit than tossing in a fifth injector and rollin' down the road....there's a lot involved in producing this kit.
I don't want anyone to think that we're lagging on this. We don't have any facility to produce any of this ourselves, so we're dependent on the scheduling the vendors can provide.
As it is, we have a car in their shop right now which should hopefully have the hardware half of things done by tomorrow or Monday, and should be in for the ECU/fuel delivery part of things next week.
I can understand the frustration but jeez, has anyone here EVER heard of a dealership releasing a turbo kit? Ever? Probably not, because it's a very involved process that is better suited to a shop that does that sort of thing on a regular basis.
So anyway, we're doing the best we can. I'll keep y'all posted.
And beto, your seat covers are coming in :)

I'm not sure if this issue has been brought up by any other So. Cal Celica owners... but will the WCT Turbo be Smog legal? I can care less if it voids warranty, but If I get your turbo, I want to pass the California Smog test when it's time to do so.

Well....if you hooked the car up to a machine, it would pass. Getting CARB certification is a very long process, however, upon completion, we will be applying for approval.
Since the factory catalytic converter setup will remain intact, as well as the oxygen sensor arrangement, it's safe to assume that the car will operate as it did prior to the kit being installed.
So, to answer your question, probably, but it will take a little while.
Thanks,
