Yes i ****ing misshifted the mother****er!!

I was coming home with girly and wanted to **** with another damn truck on the freeway (insert bad karma) and i was revving the bastard to about 8000 in third threw it very easily into what i thought was 4th but was 2nd, the car jolted backwards i was like "****, i ****ed up!"

Anyways i stop at the light after exiting freeway and its idling funny. Seems to be misfiring. Took it to Toyota, AFTER removing AEM CAI and replacing stock.

West Covina Toyota is da bomb.
If you remember when we were dissing Toyota dealerships i threw in my rant about Corona Toyota. This place is much better. They got a free Starbucks coffee dispenser, all that homie...Guy i brought it into was really cool. Checked out my car and said i bent a valve and after pulling down motor said he was gonna replace bottom end also just incase.

Just wondering how long it will take to get the motor replaced and my ass back in the Cel???

Throw in your times for repairing misshifted car.

I dont really need the car so much while im in school so im not too bummed. I feel stupid for misshifting but ive had stickshifts all my life, never would a car let me make that mistake while revving so high. Not gonna try to race this thing anymore!!!

Was that guy you met named David, per chance?

West Covina is a sponsor. And they have one of the most progressive parts programs I've ever seen from a dealer. My local dealer isn't too pleased with them. But my dealer here doesn't offer the selection or prices and they know that. (Damn, I sound like some butt-kissing commercial. Anybody got any ChapStik?)

Good luck with your motor. I think those guys will take care of you. Hell, I might move to Calif. just for West Covina. (Probably not, but stranger things have happened.)

Mike

Dont know his name. Sorry.

He's cool though offered me a rental but i really dont need one. DIdnt give me crap about it being lowered a couple inches, no questions whatsoever, just telling me theyll handle everything.

expect around 3 weeks to a good month + change

it took me about 5 weeks because my dealer had nothing in stock and had to order everything.. then they one of their testing machines stolen so i had to wait an extra week for that.. it was a disaster!

btw, i'm a manual tranny newbie, so i have an excuse for misshifting :)

It's interesting how many misshift stories are accompanied by acts of stupidity. Maybe that suggests something?

Anyhow, the rate of reported misshifts has decreased around here, but it's still much higher than the RSX board. (For those of you who said the RSX was going to have the same problem.

Morbid???

Both are doing fine. I need to do an exhaust inspection on the R, but it's back home and running fine. I also need to put on the new front lip. It can wait until I finish the wedding planning though.

why do you guys rev that high on regular driving .... this is my first manual car and i had it for 3 weeks now. Dont you feel uncomfertable when you see the needle at neer 8000 rpm.
Why werent you in 6th ... i know i like to hear the engine scream sometimes to .... but when you downshift just take that extra 1 or 2 seconds to look at the shifter (like i do ) to be 100% confident on that shift. Maybe it'll happen to me i dont know .. but i always look at the shifter when i downshift.
Be carfull peeple!!! These things are peices of art .... dont ruin em.

I keep my eyes on the road!!!

Ive had manuals for like 7 years. Usually youll be locked out of the gear should you try to downshift into a much lower gear. Not with this car. Really it felt so comfortable going into gear i didnt for a second think it was 2nd. Oh well.

They are giving me a whole new engine imported from Japan. \

Dont quote me on this but the new Policy in Toyota is to replace the engine outright because the rebuilding was not going right. After they rebuilt them the 2nd camlobe wasnt engaging because there was always some fragment of metal in the oil that interfered with oil pressure. It is much more sensitive than Vtec systmes, which if youve built an LSVTEC like i have, youll know sometimes after a build the vtec oil pressure switch will get clogged using older oil, and youll need a replacement.

they told me 8 weeks earliest... That is f'ing insane. They gave me a Camry to drive for the next 2 months.

The mechanic showed me the internals of an engine that someone blew and tried to explain how the 2nd camlobe engages off oil pressure and how the valve timing varies off oil pressure as well. He had a GTS engine which blew up the piston and broke the hell out of the rod. Most of the valve heads were busted off too from that pistons cylinder. CRAZY!
My engine wasnt that bad at all, just a bent valve but he didnt want to take any chances..

That's similar to what happened to my friend's GTS. At a coasting 60 mph in 6th gear, the connecting rod let go and came out the bottom of the block. He never misshifted.

infinitegts.......... I misshifted about a month ago and still no car. I should get it back by this weekend, so I will have to say about a month or so.

So what happens when the warranties expire and people are still misshifting? I think GT-S 6-speed is going to be rare :wiggle:

That brings up a very good point. There are going to be a lot of 6-speeds whose warranty is going to be expiring soon. Is misshifting covered under the extended warranty if you buy it? Gotta love the 3yr/36,000 mile standard one. That's lucky to last most people 2 years.
