I just purchased 3 pairs of RCA patch cords from SoundQuest and have no clue as to what the little strand of wire that run along the length of the RCA cable. What is this little wire? Is it suppose to attatch to a metal ground surface or a power wire (12v lead)??

Please help

thank you

It's a remote turn on lead for your amps.

You sure Impulse?

You should never run a power wire along with the RCA's. Run any power wire on opposite sides of the car from the RCA's.

Yeah, I'm sure. I've seen the packages that some of these RCAs come in and they say its a remote turn on lead. I don't think it would cause much noise, if any, since it would have very, very little current going through it since it's not actually powering the amp. But I agree, I wouldn't take the chance and actually use it. I ran all my power and RCAs as you said, opposite sides of the car.

no!!!don't hook it to remote. it is a ground wire!

it's not a ground, it's remote turn on

actually.. you can use the wire for whatever... it's just a wire.

If your rca's are good enough, they will not pick up any noise w/that small of a wire/current

nope you wanna look at my monster wires? it only comes out on one end. how are you gonna hook it up as a remote wire when it doesn't come out both ends.

other wires might be set up that it can be used as a remote wire but my monster even say that it is for ground. but others do make thier stuff different.

pretty sure its a remote turn on wire.. the power it carries is negligible and it shouldn't affect the quality of sound.

it's a ground wire..... dont hook it up to anything, it's to reduce engine noise and interferance.

ok, ok.. I've never seen RCAs with the little wire only coming out on one end but if that is the case for some then I would agree it is a ground. But the ones I've seen have that little wire just molded in between the two signal wires and can be hooked up on both ends, so that one was a remote turn on.

This actually doesn't make any sense, and not for the reason I already posted. 99% of the amps I have ever seen have the RCA inputs on the opposite side of the PWR/GND/RMT. Why would they run the remote wire with the RCA if you're a) not supposed to and b) gonna have to hook it up on opposite sides of the amp? oO

Anyway, Jami, your Monster RCA's may have this but sc0rp1o21 didn't say what kind of wires he/she has. sc0rp1o21, maybe if you give us the brand and model we can answer this question for you.

I can just tell you I've seen it advertised on the packaging as a remote turn on. I dunno what else to tell ya. I agree its not on the right side of the amp.

Why do you think i said this
"other wires might be set up that it can be used as a remote wire but my monster even say that it is for ground. but others do make thier stuff different."
