someone from Maxima.org said he's heard of alot of celicas with a hole getting punched into the oil pan from the screws which hold the splash gaurd beneath the oil pan (if you've done your own oil change you know what I'm talking about)

I've never heard anything of this sort.

Anyone heard of this?

Nope, I've never heard of that happening to a 2000+ Celica, not ever...

he must be confused... i've heard of more spontaneous combustions than screws poking through the oil pan...

only reason youd screw into the oilpan is to run an oil line to your vortech supercharger..

i think that guy has his hearing messed up ;)

Only two of the bolts down there are metal, the rest are plastic. And I can't imagine how those two bolts would puncture the oil pan.

The guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

Nope, that's a first. I've heard of ppl smashing their oil pans on slammed Hondas, but I've yet to hear that problem with the Celica, much less having a screw punch a hole through it.

actually I have heard about it before maybe a year ago here or on Celica.net.

Might be the same person postig both places, or i tmight have happened to one or two folks. I *can* see how it happens.

Actually, I noticed that these (2) screws were pretty sharp also, and could easily make contact with the pan if you would run over something. I replaced mine with nylon screws to avoid any such problems.

It happened to me i hit a pothole which some how hit the srew into the corner of the oil pan ... At first nothing happened but when i parked at McD's to eat and came out there was a huge puddle under my car. The hole was only thje size of the screw shaft so I plugged it up with a cone shaped piece of rubber and took it to my shop becasue toyota want to keep the car for a week to order a new pan and charge me for a new pan and labor it was around the 200.00 range. i mean all you need to do is a tack weld and sand it down. Thats exactly what my mechanic did for me in one hour. total cost of 80 dollars includoing the oil and filter (all mobil 1) they evben had a body shop next door repaint the pan so it looked normal. Needless to say those screws were removed. Its the two srews with clips holding the two bottom plastics.
