I was replacing my driver's window the other day and of course I had to take the door panel off, after I did that, I noticed that towards the upper right corner of the door (towards the mirror) there is a lone, disconnected harness, it's just there nothing connecting to it, but it damn sure has wires coming TO it. My idea is that this harness is the one that controls the retractable mirrors available in the JDM. So it would be pretty easy to install them if I had them right? anyone has done some "testing" or anything with that connector?

Retractable mirrors? Parking isn't that tight over there. I don't understand that one. Never heard of it either.

yeah man! they got them over there, I can get them from this company for $429, but i may not. The Toyota Sequoia Limited has them, you just press a button, and *click* they retract towards the body.....

whoooooooaaaaa!! damn that's cool, but the price is kinda expensive. Hehe, it sounds like a swing wing, when you start going above 100MPH the mirrors retract to give you more aerodynamics and less drag (when you're going that fast I don't think you wanna worry about what's behind you). Any idea where the switch to control it would go?

switch goes right on the mirror control switch, like on an upper corner...

Yes, i do believe that those connections are for the power mirrors. We talked about this over a year ago, before i was a member. I think that it was somebody named Tigershark or something like that from Japan that confirmed it.

I don't have a pic of the drivers side, but here is the passenger side.

Are you talking about the left most white connector? I don't know where the controls would be located though, maybe just a different mirror control unit w/ direction and swing.

While you are in there it would be a good time to......

Yes, even a 1991 Corolla had electric retractable mirrors over there. You have to understand parking spaces are very tight over there. Retractable mirrors, parking sensors, parking assist monitor, parking antenna on bumpers are very common items in Asia.

my Dad has a Tropper and its mirrors retract when you hit a switch on the dash.

just curious ... if parking was that tight that you had to retract the mirrors, how the hell do you get out of the car??

From what Ive seen in pics you sometimes have to drive down roads that are in between 2 bulidings. So to clear it you have to pull in your mirrors. This is also why you dont see large cars over there.

This is just an idea, but...

Maybe that plug is for the side air bag, because the side air bag sensor is located in the door. So if you don't have side air bags on your Celica, that plug that's dangleing there could be for the sensor that's not there?

Just an idea. It seems like toyota would eliminate the power folding mirror plug and wires from the harness all together because it is not an option on US Celica's. It doesn't seem like it would cost much to install the extra wires and plugs in the cars, but I'll bet that if you added it up over every Celica sold in the US, the sum would be a considerable amount.

not duct tape, sound damping material, similar to dynamat.

I have side air bags and the plug is still there not hooked up to anything. When I had it apart I don't remember anything other than the window mechanism in the door cavity. The side impact sensor is in the base of the B-pillar by the seat belt tensioner.

It is located behind the black vinyl rectangle that is between the seat belt tensioner and the red wire w/ white end connectors (door adjar sensor).

My opinion or guess.

It's the connection for the heated mirrors you can get in Europe?

Which I wish I had at the moment.

Does it get power when the rear de-mist is on?

keep in mind that the connector I'm talking about is on the Driver's door, I'll take a pic...
