When I merging onto traffic I peel out so that I dont slow up any traffic behind me. I usually hit 6500rpms, but then I shift to 5th and it drops to around 2000rpms. My question is, Is this bab for the engine or tranny???

Are you going from 1st or 2nd to 5th?

Should be fine..
I do it all the time to save on shifts (lazy). Just try to match your engine speed w/ the wheel speed first, before releasing the clutch. Usually each gear is about a 1k RPM drop, so if you rev to 5k in 2nd, and shift to 5th, you'll land around 2k. Try to match your revs when the clutch is depressed, before releasing. Easier to do in low revs anyway. You'll save wear n' tear on your clutch, tranny and drivetrain. I don't do it unless I'm moving downhill or level, never uphill.

I usually go 1st-> 2nd-> 5th. For the same reasons because I get lazy.

It's not going to hurt it. Why is it necessary to "peel out", you own a tire factory?

ahhh the skill of being lazy :)
You can gun it in 1st, all the way to 8K and shift into 3rd and be in cruising mode. I do this pulling into traffic and needing to get to 40 quick.
You might see if going from 2nd to 4th might be smoother than going into 5th. Ideally you should land in the rpm range that you'd cruise in or around. Practice that and you'll develop an instinct for where your engine rpm is.

I'm not lazy all the time plus I like having control of the car unlike an auto. Also my dad and cousins would never let me live down the shame of owning an auto, in my family all the males drive sticks.

I wish, but I peel out so that when I merging I dont slow down the traffic behind me. Thier some idiots around here that merge doing 25mph while traffic is moving at 65mph, then there are some that just completely stop in the merging lane.

Not all autos come like that from the factory, but its quite a piece of work.
