hey guys
just a quick question....i just bought a new deck and had it installed at circuit city...but they didn't really know how to install it since i get a static noise coming from the speakers and turning up the volume pass '1' is too loud....something having to bypass the stock amp? is this true? anyways i got my money back from the install and decided to go to tweeter where i to do it since i guess they are certified installers? anyways i just wanted to know if i'm getting ripped off or not? the guy at tweeter says it will cost 45 to install a new deck, which i thought was reasonable but i explained to him what circuit city ppl told me and that the install may require bypassing the stock amp...then he told me to bypass the amp will cost a additional 45!! i think its kinda steep...just wanted to get some opinions before i get it installed.
thanks for the help

Yeah, you'll need to bypass the stock amp. It's not too hard to do it yourself if you feel up to it. The wiring color codes are in the Installs section. The stock amp is behind the glove compartment to the right.

That sounds kinda pricy considering they would have to mess with the wiring in any car to hook up an aftermarket head unit. Probably accounts for the labor of having to take the glove box off, extra wires etc. I'd shop around but I don't really know what a good price would be since I do my own installs :).

You don't HAVE to bypass the stock amp but it is obviously preferable.
As far as the cost of the install it's not that unreasonable. One of the members here (synkros) used to sell a wiring harness to make this easy. He charged $35 just for the harness so $45 from a stereo shop sounds pretty reasonable.
Then again, I do all my own work...

Don't worry about the 90 dollars at Tweeter they know what they are doing and it is worth it here is a pick of the H/U the installed in my car they also did my 10's and amps and pretty much everything in my car they do awesome work, as for getting the 12 or 2 10's I prefer my 2 10's over 1 12 because 2 10's is cleaner then a 12 IMO. It is really depends on personal prefrance.

Depends on how much space you want to take up in your hatch. 2 tens will pump out a little more SPL than a single 12. But if you just want some bump that won't take up much space I'd go with a single 10.
A cap is probably a good idea if you're gonna run a decently sized amp. Otherwise, you'll notice your headlights, etc dimming to the beat of the music.

Well since I'm not conserned with space and want a clean but loud thumpen, I went with 1 15" with a GOOD AMP, don't ever skimp on the amps, sounds good and is clean, Box is sizable but I made a custom so its models with the paneling. Well thats what I got and I enjoy it. Thumps a lil to much sometimes but that just when i'm not into it. Tired, etc.
