Where is buttonwillow specifically? I'm up in Monterey, and very interested, but I'm leery about driving too far and racing what I brung.... Daily driver and all. I'm probably passing on the el toro scca national because of distance.

Great! Hope to run into you. How about the track school the next day? Are they worth it at Buttonwillow?

The parks inhouse driving school is difinetely worthed. I've been to one and had a very memorialble experience. track time is very good since they cap the limit very low for such a big track. The instructor ratio is about 2:1 so there are no problems getting them to spend time with you. you'ld be suprise how much one can learn in one full day of lapping.

not to brag but the only gripe i had with the event was the extremle slow pace of the newbies as i already had prior track experience. other than that i urge anyone to go to and learn or if you just want an excuse to run the track.

I have a feeling that my problem will be the opposite. Once I learn the track, I'll be pushing it pretty hard.
If I get to the Hotcjkis thing the day before, I should be in good stead.
As for my codriver, well she's not as aggressive or experienced as I am.

We'll see.

I now what you mean, but for me its the other way around. At the begining of the day I always get the jitters thinking will everthing be ok at days end. I can never get rid of this feeling and somehow I learned to cope with it. First session of the day I'm always anxious and out of rythym. I brake way to early and apex the corners wrong. maybe this is my self preservation instinct kicking in. second session, i'm a bit more relax, but still I know I can push it more. third session, I'm ussualy relaxed to the point that I'm so imersed into the driving that all the jitters goes out the window. usually I make sure the cameras recording during this session as the ass kicking begins;) 4th session, all the fear and uncertainty is gone and I'm ussualy braking late (if my brakes permit) sliding all over the place and driving on the candy-canes.

I get you.

I really don't know how I'll react. The only time I've ever run on a real track was a few drag races at Orlando Speedworld in my old Sentra SE-R, and autocrossing on the local 1/4 mile oval outside Madison, WI. (Columbus 151 speedway for anyone who may be interested.)

I know how I drive on the autox course, though.... vey aggressive from the very first run.

I can't go to a therapist!!! They'll yank my sub quals!!!

Oh, wait...... you have to be insane to go on subs anyway. And willingly go back, like I will in 2 years.

Never mind.

I ain't going to the **** shrink, though!!! :)

lol.. i wasn't implying you see a shrink. I was trying to convey your aggresiveness as a good form of release- hence a form of therapy.

I might join you guys too. I agree with Ray about the newbies last year except... I was a newbie that day! I really tore the hell out of it though and didn't slow down to pick up the instructors much. So much fun, I still remember it clearly. :D

Looking at the track map, scapamouche, I was getting it up to 115 mph through the dogleg before braking for "Riverside." I'd get to 90mph or so on the main straight. Scariest turn for me was "Sunset" as it had a huge dent in the track almost like a drainage ditch right at the apex.

Ray, I never got to see your footage of the driving school other than for just a minute. Did you ever find a way to get any of it on line?
