View Full Version : Maelfyn... Club RSX member doubting you

I saw your post at ClubRSX forum about the tread on who the fastest stock RSX was. A lot of the members there are doubting you on your 1/4 mile times. I guess they are having a problem with the fact that their cars stock can't get runs as well as you on your moded GT. Here (http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?threadid=14971) is the thread.

I though the stock Type S ran a 14.6 or 7.

best stock run someone has ran on clubrsx (that i've seen) was 15.2...i think there's someone on the clubrsx board claiming to run 14.8

So it's fairly equal to the GT-S.

Man, I feel the hate on that board. What's with the post about the only fast thing in a Celica is the women who drive it? Jeez, calm down there billy boy. Seems like the discussions on our board are a bit more better in that we pretty much all agree that the cars are pretty equal to one another. I know we complain about the RSX's looks, but that comment the RSX guy had on the Celica was pretty low.

NostraDEIMOS

hey hey..."don't just us by our worst members"...hehe...but i'll be the first to say that most RSX owners will hate any other car thats even posted on the board...simply stated, they're ignorant...but give us a chance too though...you've had a 2 year head start on mods...i know that aftermarket companies can't even keep up with you guys...but they're not to quick for RSX owners either though

The fastest documented RSX-S is running a 14.7. His name on the board is 2 RSX. People doubting my times is nothing new. Even this board doubted 15.36 and called bull**** on me. Doubted 15.07. Doubted 15.00. Even after I post time slips. This year everyone will be doubting 14.8... 14.6.

The typical RSX guy's excuse is crappy tires, the car isn't broken in yet (it has been how long now), and lack of aftermarket (join the club).

Ok Maelfyn,

This is the second time :-) WHAT MODS DO YOU HAVE? I have a GT and I'm curious as how the hell you got that 15 flat. I ran a 15.8 with just CAI. If you have headers, let me know how you like them as I'm thinking about purchasing them. Way to represent the GT bro!

They are just jealous that a GT is posting better times than their mighty Type S's.

and lack of aftermarket (join the club).

NO WAY!!! People on here think that the RSX is full of parts already and you can buy turbo and S/C anytime you like. We need more people to put some of these Celica owners in the light so to speak.

I don't doubt your times at all guys. And I post on the ClubRSX forum frequently and I get no hard feeling from anyone. It's mostly to help design parts for the car but that's a good thing. I think it's going to be a struggle to get any type of aftermarket support compared to the old Civic and Integras but I'll get you guys some parts.

I have been in the passenger seat with Maelfyn driving a few times, and he is a very good driver. The driver plays a whole lot in what times you get. He shifts better then anyone I know. . .

The fastest GT's on the site are:

Maelfin
Chumpchiggy (so i heard)
BoyRacer (ME YO!)
Acilec
143Hawaii

We all hit 15's. we are prolly the best GT drivers on this site. so if need be i will get my ass over there and represent! lol, i am not one to playa hate, the RSx can move its ass i know. so i not a hata. i just can't stand how some people think the sheet it so slow. i think when i get an s-afc and a header i will be hitting 15 flat too. i just need to get em' and race with my 15's. I got slips, and friends on this site who have been in my car with me, or i have raced against. There yo proof!
Alot of people doubt maelfin, but only cause most people arent that great at driving their GT-S and cant hit that in the damn Gt-S, or they never been in a GT, and dont know the GT's capablilty. its all in the hand foot coordination. you gotta be fast as crap at shifting though, its the only way to do it.

Sup BoyRacer!

Right on man. Represent! My goal is now to go for the 15 flat time. Headers and a short shifter will be my next buy. When, I don't know, but it will be soon as I've got the bug. It's definitely about shifting.

Hey, will you be at the track next Wednesday or Friday?

racinjason

Don't forget byebyebaby either. He was the fastest GT for a while about a year and a half ago.

Dmj: I also though that they were fairly equal but I never researched the actual times owners were getting.

Holy cow man, you've got almost exactly the same mods that I have and the ones that I want. I reckon you should be able to run close to Maelfyn with all that stuff. Let us know when you go to the track.

Hey ToyoGT,

Please tell me about your headers. I've been contemplating to get them soon. How do they sound, feel, and improve your power? Is it a significant gain? Should I let someone install them? I've asked many people about their hotshot headers but no one has ever replied with a good answer. Thanks in advance,

When I first installed my header and started up the car, I did not notice any change in sound. However, once you hit 6k, the car screams. The sound is similar to an Integra Type-R (although the Type-R I was much louder). The only other modification I have is an AEM CAI. The power increase is noticeable. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or money to get it dyno'ed. Hotshot dyno'ed a 7hp increase at the wheels, which I do not doubt. If you are not planning on going turbo, I would highly recommend the header. You may also want to look into a test pipe which is 2.5" all the way back (the collector at the header is 2.5" so you would want to match that diameter) and an aftermarket exhaust.

I think ToyoGT deserves a lot of respect too. He has the best NA 7th gen Celica 60 foot to date. 2.02 on drag radials and ran a 15.5. Very impressive and I need to buy some drag radials omg!

I have injen cai, HS header, TRD exhaust, s-afc, trd springs. Better wheels and pulleys should get me a 14.6 next season.. at least that's the plan. Maybe I'll throw a wheelie bar on there! LOL In addition to these mods, of course I'm using every trick in the book. I have an ace or two up my sleeve for next season, so it should be pretty interesting.

The headers kick ass! Buy them now! With injen cai, hs header, and unbolted exhaust you can get 90+ trap speeds pretty easily.

the tire issue is a good excuse, tires make a very big difference as i have found out when i got kumhos. i cant launch now if my life depended on it. with the stock tires i could launch at 5k+ get some when hop and get traction fairly quickly... with these ****ty kumhos i just sit and spin and have to play catch up ever race i get from a stop. i seriously wont ever race a car that is close in acceleration wise to my gts cause ill get killed off the line and
never be able to catch up. i dont want to miss-represent the celica cause i cant launch.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies about the HS headers and your mods. I definitely want to get them. Maybe when March roles around :-)
Maelfyn, I saw you have the safc. Guess that must help somewhat then. I have a TRD exhaust and when I get the headers I definitely want to have new piping that are 2.5 in diameter. It only makes sense. I can't wait to run some low 15s. Thanks again.

Thanks buddy. So I guess that makes me the record holder FOR NOW :D If you don't get your DR's by track time you can borrow mine for a couple of runs. Now that I'm on different rims and tires I can really heat those suckers up;)

close to where he is now, maybe, but I'm not expecting 14's out of my baby without a little juice :) My 1st to 2nd shift is AWFUL :( 4 out of 10 times can I land above 5000rpms...hopefully the new shifter will do the trick

i got the 15.5 with i/e and DR's. not bad but not that great.

By the way, nice color you got there;)

ToyoGT,

Likewise on the color ;)

Yeah, I'm having the same shift problems. I can do it pretty good, but I feel the need for a shorter throw, thus I really can't wait for my short shifter to get here either. Good luck with yours and let me know how you do. I'll be testing my car at the track this week to see if my new exhaust will help me. I'll keep you updated.

Cool. Let me know how you do at the track.

By the way, where did you get your APC clear corners from??? The local rice shop here has them for $50 but I hate going there and buying stuff from them...I don't know why but I just don't like those guys LOL

BoyRacer
02-04-2002, 09:23 AM
how are you guys shifting, you guys speed shift? power shift? double shift? in my opinion everything else is a waste of time except for speed shifting. power shifting eats the clutch, and double shifting take too much time, imo

Acilec
02-04-2002, 10:08 AM
Adam,

I basically speed shift and I've got it down pretty good. It's all about the timing between when you initiate your throw and let out the clutch. But, I know I can do better. I try to pay a little more attention to my tach to optimize the shifting time before I hit the rev limiter. Last time I hit the rev limiter in third gear right before the end of my quarter mile and I think it messed up my time because I ran a 16 flat and felt a slow down when it happened.

ToyoGT,

Hey man, 50 buck total is about the right price. I actually purchased them from NOPI.com. But I've heard other people got them for almost 2/3 of that price. I of course read that post much too late. I would post a thread in the mods section to ask where the best place is. One thing about NOPI, they're super fast. Good luck,

Fin

go to mbautosports.com They sell the header there for $395 I believe. Should be around $415 with shipping. When I got mine they were on backorder so I had to wait about a week and a half(they told me upfront they were on backorder which was really cool of them, most places will tell you a week or two later when you call to ask where your stuff is)

I have ordered the header and bulbs from them(before i went the H.I.D. route) and i got everything and they responded to my emails right away. you can trust them.

the header looks so small...i mean i know it's small but when i opened the box i was like WTF!!! and started laughing.

By the way, PLEASE OH PLEASE post pictures of your APC fog install...i want to see what they look like. i have the vision HID with stock fogs and it looks nasty with the fogs on, so i want to get aftermarket ones. thought about CATZ but not sure yet....

Acilec
02-04-2002, 12:25 PM
Ok, that's somewhat affordable :-) The gains appear to be worth it. I will probably install the fogs next week with the help of a local shop here. I'll take plenty of pics and post it asap.

Thanks for the header info!

Good luck! Can you videotape your new runs? Those other vids you had of your earlier runs were TIGHT! Oh, by the way, how's your Phantom Grip LSD holding up?

billybrun
02-04-2002, 06:53 PM

Maelfyn

I think the GT-S is capable of 13.9x Just needs some serious track prep, the right wheels, and an LSD sure doesn't hurt.

WICKEDDREW
02-19-2002, 06:19 AM
I know this is an old thread, but I found it in a search and have a question. Does anyone have hard numbers from the Phantom Grip yet? billybrun, did you notice an immediate difference after you installed it? Did you race before you installed it? If so, what kind of 60ft times did you get then? I get 2.20 60ft times on street tires with no LSD, and I need a 2.00 to hit a 13.9. After I leave the track, only one of my wheel wells has burnt rubber in it, so I'm only spinning one tire.

I'm getting a Phantom Grip next week, but I wanted to find out what I should expect from it.

Thanks.

gts24
02-19-2002, 06:23 AM
are you asking this question with regards to a Celica phantom grip installation or a Stealth r/t installation... ?
I dont' think the 2 are going to be comparable.

WICKEDDREW
02-19-2002, 06:35 AM
It's going on the Stealth. I just wanted to see if he saw any noticeable & consistant improvement in his 60ft times. I need a 2.0 or close to it, and I'd like to do it on street tires. Obviously the cars are different because he launches at like 6000rpm and I launch at 2500(I have more low end torque), but I want to get a general idea of what to expect. I can always take it out if I don't like it.

Hey, my 60ft times improved about 1.5 tenths I would say. 2.3 were my average and after PG LSD 2.1 and 2.2 is my average so, I guess it helped. Oh, and I do get burned tire on both wheelwell.

If you want a 2.0 why not just get some drag radials.
