...the Toyota Long Beach celebrity race ? Or do they just love celis.....
I taped year 2000's celebrity all-celica race from ESPN. it was fabulous. They pulled out the antenna and disabled(?) DRL on the celis.

As far as Supras being too fast . I think it has to do more with driver experience . While Im sure all of those people have driven rear wheel drive cars on the street . Its an entirely different ball game on a track when taking turns at high speeds . A lightweight FF car like the Celica is easy to handle on the track for even someone with no track experience .

They use a fiberglass front end for safety reasons . In case of accidents they dont want glass on the track . The windows have also been replaced with lexan . I believe the taillights are also painted on .

Lets see.. they currently don't make a Supra but they do make a Celica. If I was Toyota I'd want to "promote" a car people could actually by too.
Also the "head lights" are not painted on unless they brought this one (see below) into the pits to "re-paint" it for the picture (Celica Headlights are not glass anyway)

I think they've used the Celica for a while in these races

its because celicas handle good and the car is fun to drive

If I find the article I will post it . It shows how the cars are prepped and one of the things they do is remove the headlights and replace them with painted fiberglass inserts . The windows are also removed and replaced with lexan like I said in my earlier post .
You cant tell me the headlights in the picture posted dont look cartoonish to you ? They do to me , but maybe its just the way the sunlight is hitting them .
I was unsure on the tail-lights , Thanks :)

I think it is a "painted" piece of fiberglass in place of the normal headlight.

that's right I forgot they dont' make Supra for now :)
also if you look closer you don't see the usual lump on the headlight cover - like the one on our real celi's bulb cover. on these race cars the bulb cover is flat. But it does look like it's a cut-out piece from the hood though. So I don't think it's just a super-paint job on one big hood piece. Maybe it's a special flat bulb cover ? any idea ?

The headlights and taillights are fake in real races. But in this celebrity one they want them real for 2 reasons:
1) Having brake lights help these non-professionals know when
the other guy is braking
2) Don't they sell these cars for charity after?? I
f they don't, they
should. I'm sure there are people out there who would pay for
a street legal Celica that was used by a celebrity for racing.

there is a racing school in california that uses them to teach some people. I thin kits www.racingschool.com . They even had a few of the Celeb Celicas for some MTV Roadrules challenge.

Not the one Captain Kirk (aka. his name has slipped my mind) was driving. I believe they said he blew 3 engines.
All race cars (except F1, although in the rain they have them) have brake lights. I could be wrong, but every GT race I see, those cars have brake lights.
