one of my best friends currently owns a 98 Eclipse GS-T and he's ready to move on to a new car. he took the eclipse to mid 12 sec 1/4 mile times. he wants something with more power and a different look.... and isn't too concerned with handling... just the straight line times. he can get a deal on the cobra for pretty much the same price as an evo. what do you suggest? he's leaning towards the cobra...

thanks!

I'd take the Cobra.

I bet I'm the only one that says that, all the lemmings with say EVO because it's an import.

What year Cobra? Heard some problems with earlier Cobra and over-reported horsepower. I think the new Cobra's are more powerful. Just what I have read. No real experience with the car.

sum mag i have, dunno whih cuz i have plenty ones, have the 03 cobra at mid twelves with more than adequate handling when compared to the history of the stangs handling. id say the cobra is da best car for ts price...... and will smoke some cars twice the price...

Definitely take the cobra!!! I'm not too fond of the way it looks, but then again... i can't stand the EVO! I think it's FUGLY! As for performance is concerned, there's a lot of potential with the EVO. But stock for stock, the Cobra will take it! MITSU needs to design a good looking 4th gen eclipse with the 4g63... AGAIN!

For pure straight line speed on that kind of a budget, the Cobra is the best way to go. Easier to mod and even more aftermarket than the EVO more than likely, as well as cheaper.

:werd:

Depending on whether he like the current version or not their is a new styled mustang on the preparing for release. If he's looking for a new in the current style, he doesn't have long. From what I've seen the new retro mustangs will also have the S/C V-8 power too.

You put a slp LM and some long tubes on any 4th gen F-body or corvette and that roar would be drowned out by rumbling bass. But you won't be doing that combo on the streets with out being on a first name basis with your local PD. :gap:

You could get a used z06 for about the same price as one of these cars new. and typical z06 owners dont' use any of that car anyways .. .so it'd be well worth it.

The Cobra nearly hangs with a Z06, a couple of cheap mods and it will kill it.

i think it even more than hangs willyk..... and yes, a few hundred bux, and you have a car faster than a z06 for what? 15k less?

The z06 is ahead in the straights stock mind you. The cobra can be a z06 destroyer with a few mods. but slap on a S/C on the Z06 and it would be all over.

This is true, I considered a used Z06 while looking at my s2k. I found a used 01 with very low miles listed for 35 grand at a BMW dealer. I could've easily talked them down some but insurance was just gonna be sick on it so I got the s2k.

The z06 may get beat in the straights by a modded cobra but put a set of track tires on a z06 and it'll walk all over him on the road course. Those htings are AWESOME track cars. Awesome handling and gobs of power all in a very well priced package.

if i could afford the Z06, i would actually try and take it to a track. don't waste that phenomenal handling. that thing rides like it's on rails.

i don't know of any car that's a better deal than the cobra for the drag strip. although the STi/EVO do benefit a bit from the AWD for launches.

also, a couple of cheap mods probably means almost 400-500hp on that car, so i don't think a stock Z06 would hold it off in a drag.

I won't post my dyno or my time slip as I have no need to prove anything. My ZO6 @ E-Town last week on BFG drag radials went 10.88 @ 126.7 enough said on the Moded Cobra Vs. a Moded ZO6. BTY LPE just called me @ the shop and they now have a retro-fit intercooler that will add 88 sae rwhp to my ZO. That's going to put me in the area of 581 sae rwhp and 684 hp to the crank:AF:

If at one point that should happen all that I will do is put it in the bay on the lift and mod some more. It's wonderfull that I have a shop with a vested monetary investment in a to do what I choose. Beloved Vette is some ways yes:chuckles: but the GTS is loved in other ways in Vette isn't. Anyway, I doubt you had alot of nice mods in your car when you were 16. If you would like to prevent me from driving the celi stock, I accept paypal. ^_~

modding an evo is not a bad option also...

i would buy the evo, simply because i would never pay money for a domestic car... call me bias

I think the EVOs are ugly. Def go with the Cobra if you want fast. It handles pretty good too, but if you want drag then def get the Cobra. Stock for stock it will eat the evo alive. Plus, with barely any mods you'd be in 10's. I've talked to a few guys that have done it. Fun stuff even if the looks could be better.

stock for stock, cobras and vette's are not that far off in performance. however when getting the cobra, you dont get the vette's handling. plus you have to remember that the cobra is already SC'ed. throw the same amount of $$ in a vette that you would at a cobra and the vette would be #1

Brett ... whoa dood ur movin to boston?? that sux! theres snow there and stuff! hahaha! good luck there though! but yea jorge is leaning towards selling the eclipse. hes goin for the cobra but the evo is still a top choice because he can use most of the parts from the eclipse in it. he just put a bigger turbo in it again but he's has no wheels right now so he hasnt run it around yet. and he still has HKS cams and camshafts to put in so the whole setup needs to be tuned again.

"better" is relative. Most Mustang Engineers would state that the Mach 1 is "better". Most Vehicle Dynamics guys would state that the Bullitt is "better." The smart man would buy the Mach1 and replace the stock anti-roll bars with the ones off of the Bullitt............

Brett

You can interchange parts because its the same engine. Other then the fact that its put in different, and ofcourse some few changes, most should be interchangeable. Ofcourse I could be wrong.
