View Full Version : HELP! Really loud, squeaky noise from Engine!

This only happens when it rains. Well, so far, anyway. The noise is quite loud, quite louder than the engine sound itself at idle. It's a hig-spitched, sqeaky sound that is continuous, like it's being driven by something and lacking lubrication (that's not necessarily what the problem is, it just sounds like that). I think it's from a belt, but I can't see anything just by looking. Last time this happened, I was gonna take it to a dealer, but once the rain stopped, the noise stopped, so I didn't get it checked out. Anyone know the problem?

DaksGT is right, my dealer replace it under warranty and the sound is gone.

yup, some dealer will give you hard time, some are very cool about it, i just metion the word belt tensioner to my dealer and they knew rite away what the problem was, since i am not the only one that has this problem. And they replace it under warranty, free of charge. If you are close to north jersey, go to my dealer (hudson toyota and speak to johnathan at service) they are very nice people there.

Thanks tempuras,
I have another problem: the sound only comes on when it's raining. Does that mean it's NOT the belt tensioner? I went to a Toyota dealer last nite, but unluckily for me, by the time i got there, it had stopped raining for about 15 minutes, so the sound's gone. The sound was loud and clear when I left to go! Is there anything I can say even if the sound isn't there when I bring it back to the dealer?

mine happened a few times when it was raining too. it's rained recently and no noise. i have an AEM Pulley so they'd probably give me beef, and i'm getting new UR Pullers soon anyway so i wouldn't bother cuz my noise isn't bothering me that much.

is it me or did they change the size of the tensioner. I wnet to dealership awhile back to get it fixed. On the paper it says "non factory tensioner" and it looks different

Ai-ya...the loud noise is gone, but now there's a very slight plasticky, tapping noise (maybe that "diesel" engine noise)...I'm gonna wait until i can go to hudson toyota.

My dealer says every one who bought a gt or gt-s has complained about squeaking at low rpm's wheather it's raining or not. Mine does in blue skies. My dealer said to either have it brought in under warrenty or if I wanted to, Take a bar of Ivory soap and while the engine is running coat the serpentine belt with it. It'll stop the squeaking for about a month at a time.
But thats if you can't use the warrenty through mods or what not. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

i had a squeaky chirping sound from the engine at idle, especially when the engine was cold.. took it in to toyota and they fixed it under warranty.. they even thought my AEM CAI was cool.. =)
