My RPM'S at idle usually are between 800-1000 which is normal. However, when I am driving along and suddenly stop (ie. stop light) my RPM's drop as usual but sometimes they go down to 600-700 for a split second, then back up to normal. Just wondering if this is normal????

P.S. no power loss problems or any other disadvantage, just wondering.

I have driven about four or five different Celica's and they all do that. So you have nothing to be worried about.

Mine does that too. One day it was idling at 500rpm until I gave it some gas, but it is usually around 800rpm.

when it does that there's a vacuum leak. make sure you check all the plugs and hoses and that they're secure. especially if you have an aftermarket intake. it happens once and awhile and then it goes away. i noticed it more often when i first installed the intake..

Is this vaccum leak serious??? how do u check for leaks and which hoses. This seems to be a common issue.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

I dont think that there is a vacuum leak.
I think that what is happening is that as you slow down, with the car in gear, the compression is slowing down the car, because the idle gas mixture is still lower than the amount required for that rpm, it literally starves all the gas out of the throttle chamber.
Then when you do stop and push in the clutch, it takes a second to equalize.
I could be wrong, but its the same on every car I've ever driven.

my rpm's are at 1500 when i first start it up, then goes down a lil to 1300 or so.. and when I idle at a stop later, it drops to 300-400. I'm pretty sure that's how it goes, unless i really wasn't payin attention. Is something wrong?

My Gt will do the same thing coming off the highway. it will bob up and down between 600-800 rpm until i drive a city block or so.

Almost stalled on me once!

just check the intakes hoses and plugs. making sure that they're not loose. it's not serious unless it happens all the time.
