Basically kicks it in it's AZZ...this is a computer sim..man..and it feels awesome.

This is as good as it gets...I've played F12002, and this crushes it.

Lemme put it this way...I'm taking a turn around Croft....as I entered a corner to tight..I can hear the tires start to squeal..louder and louder as I start pushing the tread limit of the car...until I finally lose it, and go careening into the grass, the total ambience changes, I can hear the simulation emulating the sound of the grass underfoot, the bumpiness..the force feedback does it's work..all the while, theres this audio experience that I've never felt in any of the sims I play.

It's like aural experience..the game just surrounds you in it..the engines sound sweet, too!!!

The whole time I'm chugging around tracks...the wind is roaring through the car, getting progressively louder as I'm gaining speed...I can hear the clunk of the shifter as I switch gears, and the Ferrari is infinetly tossable.

Man...just download it and try it..it's super easy to setup!!!

There's two modes..track day..which is you out on the track by yourself, and Multiplayer which goes without saying.

I haven't tried the MP yet...cuz I'm looking on the web page for the main server.

I'm in love with this game!!!

The other game is called Racer..and it's doing just fine as well..in fact..many new cars such as the Lamborghini Murcielago and F360 have been released for it...

Do a search..I just did a recent post on it. Live For Speed has also went gold for release...and is pretty damn awesome...actually..it's quite comparable to Netkar, only it's not free. I like Netkar and LFS the best..Racer is awesome too but it still has quite a few bugs.

Hmm..so sad..all the servers are kinda dead..noone to race..

I'm trying to race on BOB...IP: 81.128.46.87 but it's a nogo..hmm.

I guess I'll have to tinker with it, some more.

If you need help, just ask....and tell me what you think, too!

EDIT: A few suggestions...hit F4 to remove the mirror for a big performance improvement, hold F8 to expand your FOV so that the speeds seem more real...F7 to pull it in tighter. Once you set your FOV to as far as it will expand...you'll really feel a little more like you're in the car.

If you have a steering wheel..there is an option in car setup to turn off the steering wheel in game so that it feels more lifelike.

I also suggest you do this with the Ferrari first...on the Donnington Long track...the sky is unbelievable on that track.

Adjust your sounds also...by increasing the skid sound level, and fx..stuff...so you can hear your skidding a bit better, it provides great feedback on how far you're pushing the car.

Also..read the readme for help on anything plus, commands for the replay and other things.

Replays are pretty sick, too....

Just found out you can play at dawn, evening and night times..too...hit L to turn on your lights...that looks pretty badazz, too..

You can also adjust boost bla bla on the Supra...and other settings along with viewing your tire temperatures after a good run. I suggest warming up the cars before really pushing them, as the simulation models the heat in the tires as far as grip, etc...goes.

There's points about both I love. Wish I could take 'em and make 1 sim. I remember a while back you posted about GTR. It's nice to see another race simmer. You'd think more real driving enthusiasts would be into it. Go figure. I always think it's amusing when people say, "Is it as good as GT3". As you know, that's a game, these are sims. I'm totally with you on that one...my goodness, I just finished playing with the F1..omigod..I've never gotten such a speed rush from a VIDEO game...the aural and speed sensation is amazing...I actually got butterflies as I came into a turn too hot. :chuckles:

Yes..they all have really good points...Racer has it's spectacular looks, I think Netkar has the simplest and most effective user interface, along with an awesome aural presentation, along with some really spectacular physics, and LFS has the best multiplayer code outta them all, along with some really cool driving effects such as the leaning/looking into a turn deal.

Too bad they aren't all rolled into one..heheh.

Sorry guys..this is pretty much a sim..if you don't have a joystick..I believe you're outta luck:

-From the Netkar FAQ-

Q: How do I set up the keyboard controls?
R: netKar does not support keyboard but just analog devices such as joysticks or steering wheels. A Force Feedback wheel is recomended.

i can't figure out for a second why anyone would choose to play a driving sim with a digital controller/keyboard, defeats the points IMO.

So..no..if you've got a joystick, you're good..but Netkar is pretty damn hard to control with a keyboard from what I understand, because of it's steering sensitivity..it would be so much needless effort.

A lotta HARDCORE simmer's play this game...

So I apologize, guys...I suggest you try Live For Speed, which is quite incredible also...it supports keyboard, and even has mouse support (which is quite good actually).

If you get into racing sims, you'll want a wheel, preferably force feedback, if you've got the cash ($50-75). You can actually feel things like the front tires loosing traction in a turn and the motor revving. There's so many free mods for F12002 it's sick, so it's worth the investment.

Trust me..you'll have your hands full getting around the first corner if you're not used to real sims.

One thing I love about LFS and NK are the fact that your view is treated as if it's your eyes..so if you enter a turn, hit a bump, hit the brakes..or whatever...your view reacts accordingly.

I went into hard into a turn..hit the curb, and my head shook back and forth and then leaned over as I spun out..in the direction of the spin.

It's good stuff.

You don't want the Momo. A lot of peeps have had probs with them (the newer version). You really want force feedback if you can swing it. You can get a Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP @ Best Buy for $59.

I've played GT4 with the new Logitech wheel quite a few times. It feels soooo much more realistic. Much easier to drive smoothly and stay on the racing line.

IMO, the best force feedback wheel is the Logitech Momo Force wheel. It's the one that has a leather wheel. The Momo Racing wheel (the one with the shift knob) is 2nd.

You do realize you have to have DirectX 9 installed right? Unless you're an avid game player..you probably only have DX8 installed.

What type of video card do you have?

Like angel says, dL and install DX9. If it still doesn't work, do a search on your computer for the file it's looking for. It's probably on there, but in the wrong path. When you find it, copy it to your Netkar root folder. Worked for me.

Make sure you copy and paste it; don't move it!!

That would be shweet. I can just imagine all the 'boasting' going on. And the positive side is noone gets hurt, there's no track fees, and the worst you can do is strain your wrist, instead of blowing your engine. No but really...I think we could really get into this..espescially if we can get a server going to host the sim...see how good we really are.

It supports 10 people at a time I believe...so it should be stable enough..plus, they're improving it all the time. This is only version 0.9.9..it's not even the version 1.0 yet.

It's really good if you play with the Supra or GTO, because they're really realistic as far as grip goes.

I'm going to try and find out how to change the speedo to mph, though..heheh. Mines in KMH right now..and it's a little weird.

The new wheel and GT4 are available now...in my office. :)

Actually, it will have a simultaneous launch with GT4. I don't think the official launch date has been announced so I can't post it.

Yeah. Driving the GTO reminds me of my days at Grand Prix Legends. I think the 360 is an all-around good car to match up with, too. And that would eliminate the setup portion, since you can't change it (noticed that yet?) I can't seem to change the speedo to MPH yet either. I've looked all thru the menus. I do love the analog gauges on the dash in NK.

Have you been to the 'drag strip' in LFS yet? That would be fun,too, although it just boils down to reaction time, launch, and maybe a little gearing tweak.

Arch, if this actually comes to fruition, we need to stress the fact that 'clean' racing is mandatory. Too many races online are plagued with one or two 'wreckers', and it ruins it for everybody. Somtimes it's not intentional, but drivers need to be responsible to tune their driving skills before getting in an online race. At least a serious online race.

It's really kinda ticking me off, all I get is a solid red line...and that's it....no connection information or anything.

Well..as far as car selection goes..there's only about 5 or 6 cars. I thin it looks better than GT3 in some ways, because it's dependant on your video card.

I have my Radeon set to 6xAnti-Aliasing,, and 16xAnsiotropic Filtering at 1280x960x32bit rez. It looks fantastic....unbelievable espescially when you're plowing around in the evening.

The replays are nice..but not as cool looking as GT3, but the simple fact that you've got a high rez dash and steering wheel is what makes you feel like you're actually in a car driving.

I'll take a pic from my game..and show you what it looks like...

As far as physics are concerned...GT3 is just a child's toy in comparison.

Noooooooooooo! You called it a game!!!!!!!! Blasphemy!!!! GT3 is a game. This is a driving simulation!!!!!!! You'll see the difference, and agree, once you get a steering wheel between you and your monitor, and get behind them! A PC driving simulation focuses specifically on realistic physics. Each wheel, and even many of the suspension parts, brakes, wings, ect., is modeled as a seperate entity, giving a surreal driving experience. No, you can't drive 10 gazillion cars like GT3 and upgrade them to 20,000 hp, but you can drive a few nice cars, and they are ultra-realistic. Like Arch said, you'll realize this when you fly into your first corner, and hit the rail, and decide, "Hey, this thing is not on rails like in GT3. I've got to learn to brake at a certain point, and maybe even trail brake, and shift weight to the front to get more bite, and adust the rear wing to help eliminate the oversteer, and etc, etc, etc.


Arch, I haven't tried to connect in Nk yet. Just LFS, and with F1RST. Have you tried F1RST? It's awesome, and incredibly easy to host races with all the F12002 mods.

I haven't raced with the F3000 to much....I've been messing with the MG as of right now, and the mini..I'll try it out.

I'd never driven the 3000 'til just now. Ran a 34.6 on my 4th lap at Falk.:gap:

It's too easy to drive; No challenge. You will get spoiled driving it, if you ever want or have to move to one of the production cars.

I'm running consistent 48's at Falk in the 360. Have't been able to shave a tenth off hardly.

Need to remember, tire temps are modeled individually with each tire, so you usually need two laps at Falk to get the temps up and get 'em sticky.

Well..for once I was able to get on MP....I raced with EdamSpeed on Donnington with the F360.

First things first. I suck. Simply because it's the F360..I have no choice but to say it..heheh..cuz it's definetly not because of the setups.

It's a TOTALLY different experience racing with other people. At times..I'd get actually nervous..and when someone popped into view in my mirror, I can only say that I choked several times, and took the big dive in a corner.

The sense of speed is so much better racing against other people..realizing that they're SO much better than you...

On Donnington short..I repeatedly got lap times of 1:33 to 1:35 because I'd always lose it or whatever.

I must say..the challenge was there...I raced against 5 to 6 people each time, there was a qualifying lap, where you try to get your best time, then the server would setup for the race...from the drag.

I did pretty good on my launching..popping the clutch at 6,000rpms..and usually pulled ahead..but as soon as I entered the first corner..the difference in skill was readily apparent. These guys made me look like an amatuer goofball.

I swear, it felt like I was on Thunderhill or Willow Springs....the feeling of racing against someone....following them into a turn, and trying to keep people from passing you..jeez..it was SOOO much fun.

I highly recommend you guys try this!!!

I'd love to get in your game, arch, but I still am having no luck connecting. I don't get anything in the multiplayer window. I'm guessing it's because I use a switch from a cable modem.

Do you have a router? All you have to do is open up port 6000 I believe..hold on..I look it up.

I've opened up the following ports:

UDP 6000
UDP 1000-2000 (the whole range)
UDP 32766 and 32767

esp. that last two I needed when I wanted to host. Without them I could race at other servers, but people could not connect to me. They only got the ***syncing*** message.

I'm not saying this is the definitive list it. But it seams to work.

My router is a Draytek one. Milage may vary with other routers. Karsten Borchers for example only needed to open port 6000 on his Cisco. Lucky him

Hey guys, wonder if yall can help me out. I downloaded the game. But when i go to play i get an error message , and it makes a text file. The text file says blah blah blah, no TNL. So i sent the text file to kunos@inwind.it. BUt who knows when i will get a response. Does anyone know what TNL is, or how i can fix this problem. I have DX9.:)

Heya..found out what the problem is...how old is your video card? Apparently, it doesn't support Transform & Lighting, and isn't compatible with DX9.

Depending on your card..you might be able to update your drivers and get it working...when's the last time you've updated your video drivers?

Tell me your card, and I'll see what I can find. If not..your graphics card probably won't be able to run Netkar.

Oh..and here's the two new skins I did for myself...there just to show my NC.org affiliation...ones for the F360, and the others for the Mini.

It only took a few seconds to throw them together..but it spiffs up the cars a bit...hehehe. It'll be good when whoever and ever gets together for races..heh. It's got the NC.org logo on them, and my username on the back of the cars for ID during races...heh.

When we were racing the Supras and F3000 last night, I couldn't tell who was who: at least not from the limited aspect of my rear view mirrow; bwahahahaha!

You and Scheigel were smokin' me in the Mini's. I couldn't find my line fur nuthin. I need more time behind the wheel in the mini. Momentum is definitely a large factor in driving it.

Archangel is trying to organize a NewCelica 'league', where we race regularly. We raced last night, and had a blast. He's in the UK, but the ping was just as low for me as servers in the states. I've got a fast upload, so I might be able to host, too.

Cut & Paste in your Netkar Connect box, and then hit add..it should come up briefly.

As far as the skins go..they're not too different than the standard ones...as you can see from up there...they just have the Newcelica.org logo on them...but if need be..I can edit them to how you like...or you can do it yourself..it's not too hard..heh.

You just have to make sure the other people have the same skin, so they can recognize you.

I've done the two red ones up there, but I can do the others REALLY easy..heh. Let me know if you want a skin done up for you. I've got mine, now.

Game is up..so if you wanna race..jump in! I'll leave the server up all night...cuz I'm hitting the sack, now.
