View Full Version : Ack! My Moonroof Tint's Peeling!

I just noticed today while sitting in a Drive Thru...I look up and see "ripples" in the tint. I'm currently at 63K on my 2001 GT.
For those of you who have had your moonroofs replaced (and were out of warranty like me), what did you do when you went to the dealer? Should I print out the TSB?

Your pretty much out of luck. Thats covered only under the 36k basic warranty regardless of whether there is a tsb or not. Sucks, but that's how it is.

Why in the hell would Toyota cover the sunroof under the basic warranty when everyone's sh!t starts peeling AFTER 36K? Obviously the sunroof isn't part of the powertrain... This is the kind of crap I expect to see from GM or Ford, NOT Toyota.
Toyota certainly doesn't have the best standard warranty. It certainly doesn't have the worst.
Honda's basic and powertrain warranty are both only covered for 3 years/36,000 miles, the same as Chevy, Pontiac, and Saturn. Ford give you 3 years basic and 5 years powertrain, the same as Toyota, Nissan, and Subaru. Every other company seems to give us better standard warranties. Only Isuzu and Dodge have their powertrain warranty coverage for 7 years. Of course Hyundai is at the top with a 5 year basic/10 year powertrain.
I guess Toyota expects things to start breaking after 36,000. You are on your own here.

I had the same problem as you. My sunroof's tint was cracking peeling on the passenger side. I just went to my dealer during my regular maintenance and they told me it was a TSB so they replaced it no questions asked. Since it was a TSB the 03 sunroof took precedent. Oh BTW it was replaced @ 50K and I love the glass sunroof. I heard that some dealers won't replace it but I guess it all depends on how much your dealer really cares about your business.

Which dealer was this? I'm heading to North County in Anaheim tomorrow (it's closest to me).

My car gets serviced @ Longo in El Monte, but check with your dealers in your area.

See, THIS is Genuine Toyota right here... this is the kind of service dealers everywhere need to offer. (However it would probably lower the service dept. profit at some dealers. )

I found the TSB: BO018-02 NOV 02 Body - Poor Sunroof Glass Durability
But can anyone give me a page with the full TSB and info on it so I can print it out and bring it to the dealer? Thanks.

Of course, the dealer refused to replace my moonroof without asking for $352 in parts. The service manager claimed to never hear of such a TSB/recall.

Even though I knew about the TSB they were the ones that took care of it. I didn't even need to show the TSB. They really know how to take care of the customers there. If they know how to take care of customers, they will return which in turn will increase profit.

I think the colored glass is a Canadian thing. Saw it posted on here...No biggie. When the dealer checked their records it was posted as a TSB and the order to replace it with the glass one.

this sux.. mine is peeling too and have almost 71k miles :wtc:
i think i will try to get it fixed anyways, and if they refuse i will complain seeing as so many people have this problem.. this should be something toyota fixes with no questions asked regardless of the warrantly. A 3 year old cars sunroof should NOT be peeling like this.

The Tint Peeling TSB isn't on there, but I found the code (see above) Does ANYONE have an actual report or information on this TSB we can show the dealer?
