Well, I stumbled across this pic on some dutch bloke's site

http://home.hetnet.nl/~jja1/images/pictures/photo328.jpg

Check that in-dash screen... I WANT ONE!!!

It's right hand drive, but the speedo appears to be in KMH, (unless there's a celica out there with 200mph speedo) so it's either Aussie or Japanese. Anybody have ANY idea what this is? Factory or custom? Or what? The picture isn't good enough res to see a brand name on the monitor. Does anyone recognise it?

And just to reiterate... I WANT ONE!

That is nice. I know the JDM celicas have a screen there for a navigation system. Wish they would have given that option to us in the states for that as well :(.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a newbie. What is the JDM Celica? Is it a 3rd party modfiied specification? Any pictures, anywhere?

Japanese Domestic Market. They are the same cars pretty much, just have different options and more power than U.S. spec cars due to fewer emissions restrictions.

Is it possible to buy just the center piece and fit an aftermarket one on? any idea how much that dash plastic would cost?

Actually, look at that picture a little bit closer. Look where the climate controls should be. What's all that stuff there? For the screen, possibly?

I've looked into those. instead of our push button and knob turning all of their climate controls are button operated.

Ahh, very cool. Think they'd plug into the stock.. well.. plug? I'll have to look around for these. They look a lot nicer than the ones we have.

Hey, Stephen G.

The bloke you refering to is me! I found the picture on theToyota Factory Site (http://www.toyota.co.jp). The navigation system, including the Indash monitor, is an option for all Japanese Celica's. Unfortunately there are some differences between our wiring diagram and the Japanese wiring diagrams. So it will be a lot of work and trouble before it's installed.

Read about this on another thread. Seems everywhere but the US had an auto-climate control option. That little display down there shows the current inside temperature and some other stuff. The ECU is hooked up to the A/C and a bunch of sensors which controls the cabin temperature to stay at whatever it is you desire. They also changed the design layout of the regular buttons as you can see.

Goddamn it, now why in the world is that thing not an option on our cars? Do they figure America is too cheap to want that kinda stuff? Look at us, every 1 in 4 people drive a damn SUV loaded with all kinds of goodies, of course we want these things in our sport coupes!

Yep, you're right, I think it's standard for all UK vehicles as well.

That said - I'd swap for the screen!

all i wanetd was the center console piece.. thats a perfect mold from the factory to just put an LCD up there..

Yeah, I'll go with that as well...

Just out of interest, would that centre console piece be any different for left hand drive / right hand drive models? Or is it completely the same for both?

the top peice should be exactly the same since its perfectly symmetrical and doesnt wrap towards the driver... the lower one would have problems however unless you can find room for the ashtray on the other side of your shifter... why you'd want the bottom jdm piece is beyond me anyway... stick to the top one.

xactly.. all i wanted was the top.. easier to get that piece then have a new one custom molded

Tried hunting around for this, but no luck so far. Has anybody managed to successfully import JDM parts like this elsewhere?

SilverVision:

I saw your post about the navigation system. Can you call your local dealer and find out how much the top center bezel would cost in US dollars. I would get it to put a tv in there. What size is the screen?

I'm just ask my Dad to call the Toyota dealer in Japan from Hong Kong. I got the price for around $220. If my Dad can get one for me than i will post up the picture and let you guys see it.
Might set up a group buy.
