I was wondering if any of you have traded in your celica at a dealership and how much you got for it. I'm having a hard time selling my 2001 gts, and a trade in may be my only other option. Please let me know,
thanks

Dealers will nearly always try to screw you on trade in. Sometimes they will give you an OK deal if you buy one of their cars.
The dealership offered my mom $200 on her ancient oldsmobile. She got $800 a few weeks later from a private buyer.

Iv'e got a 2000 GTS with 55K and dealer said he'd give about 11G's for trade in. Sometimes they will give you more $$ for trade in if you buy another car, kinda like taking sticker price off a new one. Either way you will get less $$ by trading in.

If there is a carmax near you i would go there. They will give you blue book value for your car and you don't even have to buy a car from them. They sell a S*** load of cars. All kinds. New and Used. You can look at what they got in there inventory at there website before you go. www.carmax.com

yeah, no carmax in NY. wow, seems like people are getting like nothing for their cars. Do you all think asking what the kbb value is from a dealer is too much? i was really thinking i could get $15k for a trade -in.

Be careful of dealer trade-ins. If you let them know right away that you are going to be trading your current car in, they will offer you a "fair" amount for the trade in - but then jack you on the price of the new car you are purchasing. Probably your best bet is to get a price in writing on the car you want to buy, then let them know you have a trade in and see what they will give you. If it's really low (not enough) sell the car private party. That way, you will have gotten the new car you wanted for a good price, and sold your old car for you felt it was worth. The con side of this is that if you're having a hard time selling your car, you might end up selling it for what the dealer was offering as a trade in value and then you just wasted your time. My 2 cents.

and don't forget u only pay tax on the price difference between the new car and the trade in value of your car when u trade it in to the dealer. Sell it private and u'll pay tax of the full amount of the new car. In MA tax is 5% so if u can get trade in of $10k u'll need to sell your car private for at least $10.5 to make it worth while.

My friend got 12k for his GT. I don't know how that compares with other trades but he didn't mind.

That T-a was a auto and priced as high as your celica......
The mr2 is a 2 seater so no. A 4th gen T-a will bury a mkIII and I'm not feeling All tracs. And we have yet to see one of your cars last 5 years...................

Just because I don't keep my cars that long does not mean they don't live that long. There was more than one at Beechomont. MKIII with mods can bury a T/A and live a lot longer And ok about the All tracs. The MR2 is still a heckuva car.

They will live but you have yet to do any major maintance on the cars. You gotten rid of a bunch of your cars before they needed brake work, new tires, a tune up, etc. Cars are expected to be hassle free when they are new, but when you run them hard regularly they are going to require more maintance to maintain them. Maybe you'll have the rex long enough to see.

And how much would it have cost that dealership to make 600 measley dollars on that Olds (assuming the same/similar buyer would have found it at their lot)?
I know there are plenty of shady dealers out there doing shady things, but low-ball trade-in offers isn't an attempt to "screw" someone, it's an attempt to maximize profit.
Some cars will move fast on their lots and make them money...others won't...guess which ones get a good trade-in offer.

More than Likely I will. As for the other cars I have had to replace tires on the Tundra which I had for 50k miles I had over 30K on the Avalon.I never needed brake work because I didn't ride them like a granny.

Everybody talks about how great Toyota resale value is....I'm contemplating purchasing a new car, but one of the things against that is that I know I would have a hell of a time getting a decent trade in value for my 00 GT (purchased used one year ago) and if I would try to sell it privately I doubt I would get very many calls at all, as that is what I've heard from others trying to sell 7th gen Celicas.
Even if I sold privately I'd probably get 3 - 4 thousand less than what I paid last year for this car. Part of that is that I was screwed when I purchased my car, but at the time it was the only one in a 1000km radius that fit my criteria (color, 5 spd, etc.) so I literally had no choice, and I didn't want to buy new.

No car has decent resale value. Everyone is always going to try to lowball you even if you own a lamborghini.

:werd: But you have to hassle when every one starts adding dollars because the car is supposably sentimentally special to them.
Some people act like they are doing you a favor by trying to sell it to you at a inflated price.

Supras, Nsxs, Vr-4 Just about any high speed car thats sought after. Last time I check A supra forum A guy was trying to get 10k for a MKIII with over 150k on it because he considered them babied highway miles.
