To the best of my knowledge, the GT and GTS came with the same suspension from the factory. With the Progress springs, I'm not too sure about that. A car handles better if you lower it a bit, but at a certain drop the handling will be adversely affected. Now TRD springs should handle better than stock because it keeps the suspension geometry and it's not that big of a drop.

The GT and GTS do have identical suspensoin (though the 16" Yokohama tires on the GTS will easily out grip the stock GT rubber).
The progress springs may or may not help you. There was a test a while back and a TRD Celica (TRD springs) was slower in the slalom than a stock one.
But, in the broadest sense, if the Progress springs improved your handling, then you would in theory have a better handling car than a GTS.
Of course, can *you* out drive the driver of the GTS?
