View Full Version : Removing Action Pckg Wing
Anyone here removed their action pckg wing? I tried once, but it seemed glued down or something after I removed the bolts, and I was afraid of cracking it. And if so, what did you do to fill the holes and sticky crap left over?

the sticky crap is double sided 3M tape. Heat it up with a blow dryer to melt the adheesive (this will take a LONG time). You will need atleast 2-3 people to help you out. It's a pain. Don't be afraid to break it because it's SUPER stuck onto the car. After you remove the TRD wing, you will have to use a razor and some goo gone to remove the left over crap. Make sure you unplug the 3rd brake lite too.. :)
thax. gonna try and rip that baitch off this weekend. Too gaudy for my taste.

What color is your car? If it's silver I might be interested in buying the wing. I don't like my replica TRD wing.

I would just say use goo gone, not a razor on the car...that's just my opinion to avoid any scratches.

Removing the TRD wing is a b**ch.....that's my .02 worth. I've done it three times now.....
Oh yeah, don't use a metal razor blade. Go to your local paint store and purchase one of those plastic razors (I'm serious...that's what they're called) and use that with the Goo Gone. It won't scratch.
Thanx for the clues. The color of the wing is the lighter blue (can't remember the factory name). Think I'll stick it on Ebay.

it is screwed down. thatd be pretty stupid if the wing was only held down with double stick tape.

yeah, that sucker is on there hard core. the entire leg is the thickest, stickest tape i've ever messed with.
need: blow dryer, cutting tool (metal or platic razer, whatever), 1 or 2 more people (to help keep the wing lifted as much as possible to get in there to cut), and a lot of time and patience.

why don't u use fishing line to cut the tape under the spoiler??
that's how i did it with the toyota sign in the back. heat it up and then slide the flishing line thru the tape-should work and won't scratch ur paint-but honestly -i guess u have to paint the lid again to hide the holes!

i would imagine that being a more serious glue than the one they used for the toyota emblems.

fishing wire does not work. there are four screws that hold it down also. this forms a sort of box that the wire doesn't reach. so it's still held down with adhesive. plus, like evil eye said, the adhesive is a lot more serious

Well, it's off! Wasn't as bad as I thought. Started lifting, and used a knife to get under and cut the sticky as I lifted more. Gettin' the sticky off was a PITA though.
I LOVE the way it looks now! It's got a real 360 Modena look from the back. Too bad I can't see the engine when I look in the rear hatch.

hahah. congrats.
So you other peeps that removed your wing; how did you fill the holes and paint it? Did you just take it to a body shop? And how much was it?
*bump*
Anyone? I'm mostly curious about the price in getting the rear hatch deck redone.

Its interesting that you are going to remove the wing. I think they look really good, distinctive for the Celica. Mostly cause I have the same package on mine. Maybe don't sell it...you may want to replace it after a while. ?
