I've had my gts for 3 days now and i'm havin my doubts on why i bought it. I dunno if i could live with it's torque, i have to revv it high to get the power out and i don't like doin that constantly. Also since this is first manual car and a fairly new driver to this transmission, it's pretty hard for me to drive it, hah. Gettin it in 1st i staul more often than ussual and havin to shift more frequently then the ones i've driven in the past. Do any of yuo think the gts is harder to drive than let's say the GSR or Prelude?
wait hmmm.. i don't even know why I posted that, i guess i'm venting? but on another note i'm a newbie here *waves* and this looks like the best celica board out. So, i'll be lookin forward to postin and hearin anything about the celica here, since i have no choice now but to keep this car. Don't get me wrong tho im not really regrettin gettin this car or dislike it, i'm just havin my small duobts for now

first, welcome to the board. sorry you don't like some of the stuff about the car, but overall they're pretty good. the low end torque does definately suck, but hitting lift usually makes up for it. and the handling and breaking are also very good on the car. i drove a GSR once and it didn't really seem easier, but it was definately a lot slower. don't have any experience with preludes though. just save up your money and wait for the blitz supercharger to come out and then everything will be real nice.

thanx for the welcome bro.. i only had ths car for 4 days so i don't really know the full potential of it yet, and until this morning i haven't engaged Lift.. and so when i did.. well imagine urself hittin ift for the first :D. Lift feels way more powerful to me than VTEC (compairing this to a GSR, Prelude and a few other hondas my friends around here have). So this prolly cancels out the low end torque it has. drivin it below 6k rpm and over makes a helluva difference, and hearing about on how this car handles... i can't wait to hit them twisties :]

If it's a new car then you'll notice your engine perform better as it breaks in. You shouldn't be going over 4K anyway while you break your car in

As you get used to driving manual, and having a 4-banger, you'll find that the car responds quite well once you get the hang of gear selection. The only hard part about driving this car is learning to keep it in it's powerband, but it's not by any means a hard car to drive normally, or harder for that matter, than a GS-R or Prelude. Sure you have to rev it to get it to go, but the tach sweeps up to redline pretty damned fast.
Welcome to the boards. :)

I hear you 00 LSM GTS...Reminds me of the first spin in my 2000 Celica off the lot. I spent the first 10min taking the car off the line in 3rd gear...as I couldn't find 1st. I kept thinking the car was painfully slow off the line...little did I know...;).
Now with 20K on the Odometer I can't wait to make freeway entrances and look for opportunities to run the car above 5000Rpm. Just remember its a car...a material possesion...you can't take it with you...and luckily they keep making spare parts. Not to mention its a good piece of eye candy!
