Just clay bared my celi this afternoon.

DAMN!!! That stuff works like no other!

No scatches, just a slick, smooth surface, free of all the crap that settles on a car.

If you haven't bar'd da car, RUN, don't walk, and get it and go to town.

Agreed..I did mine 2 weekends ago, and its still smooth as glass. I didn't realize how dirty my paint was until I clayed bar'd it.

If you use a cleaner, do you still need to use a claybar? How long does a claybar last?

I wanted to use a claybar, but I didn't think it was neccesary since I use Meguiar's cleaner on it.

I'm not sure what you mean by cleaner. The cleaner wax/polish stuff?

Clay bar strips off all existing wax and removes any contamination that is on your paint's surface. Takes off everything down to the clear coat. Immediately following you need to polish/wax because your car's finish is totally unprotected.

Not sure what you mean by how long does it last either? I usually break the bar in half. Each half gets only one use, and will do a whole car (asuming it's a celica, on a van you will need to use the whole bar). It gets only one use because as it slides over the surface it picks up the contaminants and holds them. Every once in a while you roll it back into a ball and flatten out again to get a fresh surface of clay. After clay barring, your maintenance schedule of washing and waxing will determine how long a smooth finish will last. Most people I have heard of use it 2 times a year.

Well, since you don't show your location nobody is going to be able to help you. In MD by me you can get it at Pep Boys, Trak Auto, Walmart, and Target. It is in the section with the wax and car soap.

So the claybar WILL NOT STRIP the clear coat???????
cuz it strips all existing wax/polish and any other crap off the surface.........so wouldn't that also take out the clear coat?????

No the clay bar will not strip the clear coat. The existing polish/wax on the surface is a 'film'. That is all that it can strip off. It will not take off the hardend surface of your paint.

i am going to go get one shortly and i was wondering how you use it exactly. i know they give you the little bottle of stuff, but how do you use the bar properly. what do you spray on the surface of the car before you put the bar on it. i know you dont just put the bar on the car directly. i think it said not to use water either. what do you use to get it slick?
thanks

Most of the kit's that come with clay bar include some quick detail spray that you use to "lube up" the surface of your car to make the clay bar slide all smooth over your paint .. like a hockey puck on ice. It usually smells pretty good too.. I know the Mother's Quick Detail spray kinda smells like bubble gum. :)
