Yea looks like that magazine, or Mazda, got busted for a photochop. It wouldn't surprise me if that that Talon was the base picture for that RX-7 concept photo.

the miata will never compete with the RX7/8 its in a class of its own. hopefully they dont screw it up! right now its pretty much perfect i think. small displacement engine with a low compression ration.. can take 25psi on stock internals.. i love those cars =)

I keep wondering where the hell Mazda would price an RX7. Turbo Rotary or high power NA would still presumably cost more then the Renesis in the RX8. So figure At least $5000 more, and the RX8 already stickers in the low to mid 30's. I doubt they want to go Vette hunting. They're in that quasy price range of around the low $40k. That area is what killed the old Supra/3000GT/RX7/300ZX since only a small percentage of people can actually afford one.

Perhaps if they cheapened the platform (solid A-pillers, less storage, no backseat), but even then it would probably hit $35k and possibly compete against the RX8! Attacking your own products gets you in big trouble. Just look at GM!

Indeed. But those cars have distinctly different exteriors. The RX-8 already has the two door look. The RX7 would have to really be set apart with more power, better handling to pick up the sale then. Think about it. The AVG Joe sees for the same price he can get a car with 4 seats and looks like 2 doors that performs identically and looks just as good (conjecture, I know) as the car with 2 seats and 2 doors. Which do you think he would buy?
