My friend(owns a 92 mr2) is trying soo hard to convice me not to waste my money on the celica Gt. He thinks the Altima 4 bangger will beat a GT in a race. I not think so at all. The altima is only a torque giver. And it weighs like 500 lb more. i can see the Se-r spec v beating a GT. but not an altima am i wrong. i think not. but what do i know lol

Sorry, but the Altima 4 cylindar is faster than a GT. The Nissan Altima 4 cylindar engine puts out 175 hp and, if the car is a manual, typical 1/4 mile times should be around 16 seconds flat. Good drivers, of course, will be able to get into the high 15's. A manual Celica GT, in comparison, typically runs around a mid 16 second 1/4 mile, with lower times posted by really good drivers, of course.

I don't know why your friend is so agianst the Celica GT. I tried looking for some information about his 92 MR2 but I couldn't find anything. I am guessing that its performance was rather unimpressive, so I don't know why he considers the Celica GT to be unacceptably slow. Was a turbo or SC even offered on the MR2 in 1992? What kind of times does a 92 MR2 run?

240hp, 246lb-ft, i think the gt-s will have a hard time with the new altima. according to nissan the car does 0-60 in 6.8sec which is around the time for the stock 6speed celica gt-s. the auto altima maybe a little slower, but mostly likely not by much (i think). so i dont think the gt will beat the new altima, but who know, anything can happen.

a 5-speed GT can run mid-high 15s stock with any kind of competent driver.

only a horrible driver who shouldn't be on the road or bad conditions (elevation, weather, track, etc.) would get a GT into 16s.

Mid 15s stock? I've never heard of anyone running that in a 5-speed GT on here, unless Maelfyn accomplished it. Must be possible only if you're way up in the mountains or in the freezing cold. I think you're talking about the GT-S stock running low-to-mid 15s stock.

hold up. how can the altima be faster then the GT.. IT is only 20hp more then the celica GT to the WHeels(if u remember reading about the sentra se-r spec v only getting 141hp to the wheels the altima has same engine) and it is 500 lb heavier. I really can't see this at all. Am i missing something? I mean come on the RSX-S has 20 more hp then the celica GTS and only 200lb faster but they make same time little faster. so say if the the RSX-S was 500 lb heavier i think the GTS would kill it. I belieave this is the same comparison right?

1992 mr2 with 5s-fe engine (what he has) weight 2700lb, hp 130, torque 140. rear-wheel drive.

You'll get more utility than the Altima plus the Celica GTS drivetrain. All for about the same price or less than an Altima. Also you may be able to take advantage of the Celica aftermarket that has already started developing. Who knows how long it'll be before anything comes out for the Altima?

Of course, I don't think the V6 Altima's are much more expensive than a Celica GT and they're pretty hot right now. The comparison between a Celica and an Altima is kinda like apples and oranges really. If four doors are your bag, the new Altimas seems like very good cars.

Edit: If a Celica and an Altima had a baby together, it would be a Matrix.

lol, hehe *Matrix

No i think the v6 altima starts out as 23k :bang:

unless when i go test drive the sentra se-r Spec v and the celica again and celica losses i'll buy the sentra. But the look of the celica is getting me more and more essepcially becasue i am getting it with the action package :).. Anybody got close pic of the GT options (15" alloy wheels) ???

fyi, i ran a 15.9 my first time at the track with a 5spd(after only driving it for like 2 months) in hot and humid mississippi...

the GT can easily get high 15s with a good driver, just as a GT-S can get high 14s. I just dont see why people think the GT is so slow...

there is no way i'm getting beat by a 4cyl altima, even with bpu. those numbers(weight, hp, torque) will not move that far very fast...

the se-r spec v is not as fast as it was made out to be at first.... and the dealer warned me when test driving it that even if you modded a little(ie intake, exhaust or even changed spark plugs) then the full warrenty was automatically void.. while i believe this to be illegal i doubt you'll get much support from the dealer with modded nissians

Right on man, I second that. I am not about to get beat by a fricken Altima either. A friend of mine is getting one and I can't wait to whoop the snot out of him.
