that sounds like crap to me...

If I had a choice I wouldn't have gotten the leather package with mine.

I would think he is B.Sing you. I think you can order the car however you want it. He is probably just trying to make the sale now with what they have on the lot.

Hes B.S.ing you, I ordered mine 2002; without leather with a bunch of extras that they would install... all for a good price, though it has taken 6 months to get here almost. Ordered it Mid October... finnally ARRIVING not ready but arriving sometime this weekend. But hell well worth the wait. So ya just tell them you want this and if they can't give it to you, you'll go somewhere where they can. Heh, that'll get them on their feet. Your the boss, your the one with the cash buying the car, not them, so they shouldn't tell you what to do. Just some helpfull hints that I used. Good Luck and enjoy

I think it's not true. The non leather GTS may be hard to get, but it's not impossible. My friend has a MR2 turbo with no T-tops. Try and find another one like that.

actually this may be true in canada. i just bought my 2002 celica in leather because my sister, who is a car broker, who i bought my car from, told me the exact same thing, that they dont make a non leather version of the gts. thats what she told me. i dont know how true it is though.

I don't know about the US, but in Canada they changed the option packages for 2002. The GTS now comes standard with cloth seats and no sunroof. The sunroof now comes with the same option package as the leather. Just check out www.toyota.ca.

I guess it would help the handling somewhat. Resale value...who cares? Why would you sell it? :D

even if they changed the option packages, you should still be able to order the car any way you want from the factory. You just have to wait a long time to get it.

I got my GTS without leather because I hate leather(too slippery, and uncomfortable). Even though no dealerships in the area carried any, I was able to order one that way from the factory. I don't know why they would limit that option for Canada only. It makes sense that the dealerships would order them bulk in a certain way depending on what customers generally wanted, but it doesn't make sense that toyota wouldn't build one the way a customer wants and send it over with all their other shipments.

Just bought my 2002 a couple weeks ago with cloth seats. I like cloth better as leather is sticky especially in the summer. Anyways here in CA, dealers don't have the luxury of large stocks of Celicas so some are in a trading program with other dealers so they can get the car with the features the customer wants. It sounds like the dealer is not in a trading program or just wanted to move his stock. He's definitely BSing you. I got so pissed at the BS one dealer was giving me, I walked off & bought my car from a dealer on the other side of town.

My family used to have one like that; we had a 91 with sunroof and a 93 NA with t-tops. We sold the turbo. Both were sweet cars. I had asked the local dealer here about ordering without leather, and he reacted like I had asked for them to only put three wheels on. When he saw that I was serious he said it would be highly improbable and most likely take many months. He also said that if I were to ever trade it in it would take a huge hit because dealers don't want to touch GTS's without leather. Didn't matter much to me, I ended up buying used.

But have you ever seen a turbo without t-tops or a sunroof?

I just took delivery on my 2002 a couple weeks ago. I wanted cloth seats cause I hate the stickiness of the leather, especially when I'm driving with a t-shirt.

Your dealer may not have any available in his area, but you can get them with cloth - trust me

His is the only one I've seen like that. Gives you more headroom inside and those no chassis creaking on hard turns.
