i purchased my muffler back in july of 2001. i took it to a shop to get it installed and i was not please with the sound. it was too quiet. so i ask them is there anyway they can make it louder. they said they will take the resanator out. well... i said okay becuase i hear alot of people doing this to get a better sound. they lift my car and as i watch... they are cutting the middle section of my middle piping. looked like a mini muffler to me. i didnt know wut the fawk it was. they said it was my resanator. so i just watched and let them do it. well i tell my friend about this and he looked under my car and he said they cut my fawking catylitic converter(sorry if i mispelled). he tells me this is illegal like hell. and i knew something was wrong becuase you can smell the smog soo bad when i reved my engine. never did before until i got that shiet cut off. its been a long time since i got my muffler put on. wut should i do?

unless you have to take your car in for inspection in your state i wouldnt worry about it, shouldnt hurt your car any and you probably gained a few horses.

if im not wrong there is the cat, then a small resonator after the cat. then the long pipe that goes to the muffler in the back of the car.

at least your car breathes better now without that barrier ;)

there's a resonator and a cat on the mid pipe. which one was cuz off? the resonator is the one closer to the exhaust tip. Did it make a big difference to the sound?

it may breath better and gain 2 horsepower but smells like ass. it may be the piping closest to the muffler but my friend says the resenator is in the muffler. yes there is a increase in sound. but it also rattles like a mother F**ker

i dont think yer friend knows what he's talking about to be honest.. the celica has a cat an a resonator and a muffler.. very restrictive system if u ask me.. i had the cat replaced with a high flow cat and then straight piped the resonator.. made a nice sound difference.. definitely higher flowing.. Im sure thats all they did, was replace your resonator with a straight pipe because remving the cat is majorly illegal for shops.. liek a 300,000 fine or some ****

can anyone describe a resonator? Cat back is like little honey comb hexagon or octagon stuff. Muffler is like a maze, sort of. How does resonator look like?

If they removed your catalytic converter, you would get a CEL on your dash. So if you don't have a CEL, they did not remove your cat...

Shops won't remove your cat unless you replace it with another cat.

removing resonators doesn't do that.

Where is the o2 sensor located in the pic?

I believe the O2 sensors are before and after the cat.

yea well. They arent guilty of searching the topic, AND most people reply without seeing the date. Assuming one wouldnt bring up such an old topic.
