I bought a 03 celica GT action package. Its an automatic but I can only get the car to go 115 top speed on the highway. Is there a way to increase top end speed without aftermarket parts ?

Unfortunatley, it has nothing to do with the ECU, so there are no simple things you can do to your car without doing power adding mods to it, such as an intake or exhaust. 115 mph is the maximum top speed that the car is capable of because it does not generate enough power to go any faster.
I have a newbie question of my own to ask.
I honestly don't get this pre-occupation that people have with TOP SPEED? I've seen tons of threads over the years on this site about top speed, asking people to post how fast they have gotten their Celica's to go, and asking how to make their car top out at even greater speeds. Who the hell cars? I mean, for me the thrill of performance all boils down to acceleration. With every power adding modification I do to my car I am hoping to make my car accelerate faster, I could care less if that extra HP makes my GTS top out any higher than the already insane speeds of 140+ mph, because I will never go that fast, especially not on a public road. What kind of bragging rights are earned by tales of top speed? Who cares if you got your GTS up to 148 by riding downhill with the car floored for five minutes in 6th gear? Top speed says little about the actual performance of a car to me.
I'm not asking all this to try and flame people in the pursuit of greater top speed, I am honestly asking it in an effort to understand. Can anyone help me out? :(

exactly...top speed I have gone has been 110 on the highway where I know there are police and if there were I could slow down... It is all about acceration for me and how the car looks. I like my GT even though it is the fastest thing out there.. I get good acceration with my mods and it looks like a million bux so that is all I care about.

My GT Auto has gone above 115 on many occasions. I have taken it to about 125-130.

Some speedometers are just more accurate than others.
A stock GTS 6 speed is supposed to be going 137 at redline in 5th gear with no extra power to accelerate into 6th. 115 sounds reasonable for a stock GT auto to me, people who hit 130+ in bone stock auto GT's are probably only hitting 130 on there speedometer's, not actually travleing over 130 mph

I guess when you get into a heated race that limiter Be it electronic or aerodynamic can become a real pain.

top speed is just as big a category as is the drag strip. top speed is a science, with aerodynamics and grip playing as big a factor as it does in the 1/4. there is a lot for people to keep themselves happy with, xcross, drag, drift, etc.
to each his own, you know?

i dont see how the auto gt can go so high. my car gets to 130 fairly easily. but it takes a good long while to go from 128-133 then after 133..its liek 1 mph every mile. so i dont see how an auto gt could do it when teh 5 speed struggles so much. and doesnt it have one less gear? must be damn tall.
ive never drivien in an auto gt..so this is just my opinion.

Imagine the Action package could hinder aerodynamics a bit too.

all this talk gettin me nowhere. You guys say you go 115 - 130 mph in the same damn car as mine and mines just new lil aerodynamics "maybe" w/ the action package. I dont care about the top speed beating a gts or anything of that nature. Lets compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Yes my car is stock in the engine compartment. Yes it is an automatic. Does it accelerate quickly? Yes. Am I still happy about the top speed? No. And if the 01's are going 130 then my car can too. Am I doing my top speed every chance I get? No. But I overpaid for my car $27,000 god damn dollars and I only get 110? Something dont add up. I heard mechanics say its illegal for it to be turned up. I say to that BS! Who has one of those fancy smansy gadgets that the mechanics use to change the parameter settings in the cars ECU ? What will it let you do? does anyone know? And I love the comments about it sucking for the auto to be so slow and how the gt sucks. Personally I think those comments are made to piss me off when in fact it doesnt. I happen to love the gt action package or not. The gt-s has got 40 more horses it BETTER be faster than mine. I just want mine to be at least comparable to a ford escort top speed is all. Any answers ?

chief,
i have the exact same car as you but red. I can only get 115, after the TRD air filter i got to 117, lol.
anyway, just to confirm 115 sounds right. also, the 27,000 u paid is the financed amount, or is that after interest?
Sucks about being inside out on the trade in, i was $1000 over and i know how u feel about realizing the limits of the car...
YOu can still have alot of fun it and there are some mods that can make your driving experience more fun so check them out.
The real question is: Turbo kit or trade it in 3 or 4 years....

I explained it to you. combine auto, GT, and the action package and you have a car that making modest power(140), isn't geting the full use of its power band(auto) and suffers from too much aerodynamic drag(action package).

Personally i dont like your F()*&#N attitude. :monkey:you paid 27k for a slow car, get over it. Can it go faster, yes.....But why? Maybe you cant drive.......if you wanted speed, why the hell did you buy a gt for 27k when you could of had one of a number of faster cars for undre 30K?

I found that top speed means a lot when your long distance traveling. I've have been in convoys that were moving at 95-110 for a hour at A time and it does wonders for your eta.

only if your in upper rpm band the entire time (if your rev line limited) I'm electronically governered. while being a little less isn't drastically different. I get worse mpg in the city.

95-110? top speed, that's cruising on a long drive, when someone says top speed, the first thing that comes to mind is not the 4 hr trip to the beach....

No. the higher reving ablility is from the 2nd cam that "lifts". If you put in a gt-s computer it may not stop you from reving to 84k but your motor would be toast.
