Even since the Bus strike the traffic on the surface streets is moving smoother? There may be more cars but since all the lanes are moving it flows better. Or is it just me who thinks this?

Perhaps a lil more smoother but downtown is a mess during rush hour. It took me and hour and half from Waikiki to pearl harbor on the second day of the strike. I've been leaving earlier to get there on time...but it still takes me atleast an hour still....=((

All I know is that it's pretty d*ck to cut out handivan services. When I was taking grams for radiation treatment for her cancer every morning, there were two other old women in there that came via handivan and had no other way to get there. For radiation, you HAVE TO BE THERE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT EVERY SCHEDULED TIME. WTF were these ppl supposed to do when the handivan shut down too?
That alone makes me think, F*CK these guys. My grams had us luckily, but there are ppl that need these services.
That and these assholes park their cars with their hazards on in front of the bus depot in Pearl City on Waimano Home Road, like they own the place and causing a traffic hazard.

The sad thing about the Handivan thing is that my friends grandama had to go to the day care home but they wouldn't pick her up. But when he asked his uncle how he got to the UH football game he said the Handivan picked them up! What's up with that? :wtf:

for the handi-van it service was limited to mainly those that needed to get vital treatments. for the football game, im assuming it's because at that time no one is using the vans.
but jus so you know, handi-van service is back to full operation. the union decided to lay off a bit on pressuring members to disrupt that service.

Yeah I just read that a little while ago in the Advertiser... but they should NEVER have done that from the start. That's just f*cked up no matter what way you cut it. :furious:

when i leave HCC for kaneohe around 6 pm, the traffic is insane! i'm almost sure it wasn't like that last semester.
one thing for sure is the parking at HCC and WCC sucks even more!! WCC especially, it's shocking compared to last semester.
f*ck the bus drivers, they make more money than teachers and police officers. sorry, i take that back. i think it was some head honcho that convinced the drivers to strike, so f*ck the guy. but still, the strike shouldn't have happened because of their already high wages.

i just read an interesting article in the school newspaper today....instead of the state fighting the strike and getting involved in the all the politics....i think they would have a bigger voice in this issue by hiring new drivers to replace the drivers on strike...think about it, there's at least 1400 open positions, and with their competitive salary, i'm sure those spots would fill easily....now i know that may sound insensitive to just lay-off the current drivers on strike and just forget about 'em...but if you think about it economically, cost-benefit wise...it's really 1400 drivers out of a job....versus over 200,000 people (not to mention the multiplier effect) affected by this strike

I agree completely, they should just hire more drivers, I'm sure a lot of the drivers want to get back to work already, must suck not getting paid for this long, I know they have some kind of insurance they can tap into, most unions have them, but I dont think the union is letting them have access to that yet. Have you guys heard how much bus drivers make. Its in the 45k range. A police officer and fireman only get 37k. WTF!!! Not that I love cops or anything, but I think they should be getting paid more than a friggen bus driver. I'm not dependent on the bus, so its not to bad, but I can just imagine what the parents of kids that ride the bus are going through, must be a pain in the a$$.

how's this going btw? still striking? I don't remember HGEA having a backup isurance plan for striking members... I think everyone just got f*KED when they went out on strike in 1994.
My friend is a fire fighter... he makes good money, but works three jobs to push past $50k. Bus drivers also get fully paid medical. Hell, even I don't get that and ppl always say state worker benefits are so good.
Plus I see those f@wkers parking in our lot at night while they strike. I hope they don't get shyt.
